Botzu's Quick Evaluation

+ Mountain overcomes many of the common drawbacks to the brawler archetype while providing some very resilient dps
+ Talent: has a chance to critical hit, dealing bonus damage and decrease enemy ATK as well as a chance to evade physical attacks
+ Strong AOE DPS with either S2 or S3 along with a low DP cost and the ability to activate his skills quickly after deploy means he is well suited to handle early waves.
+ S2: A toggle skill that Slightly lowers DEF and Attack Range but grants an ATK boost, block+1, splash attack and a huge regen bonus. With this skill, Mountain is able to hold lanes of small to medium enemies very well as most enemies can't out-damage his regen.
+ S3: His attacks deal 2 hits with increased ATK, increased Talent activation rate and ATK interval and pushes up to 4 enemies away. Very effective against slow enemies as your knockback will reset their attack timers.
= S3: he will knock enemies back on all sides.
- S2: Switching to Defender range means he will always need to be in the enemy path to do DPS, unlike others that can rely more on Defenders to block

Operator Overview

Between his spiked jacket chains and brass knuckles, it’s easy to assume that Mountain is some kind of criminal, street brawler, or mafioso. He has indeed spent several years in jail, but not because of any crime he has committed! Mountain was born into the lap of luxury as the son of a Columbian CEO, but his family was framed for illegal activity and he was sent to Mansfield Prison to take the fall. Now Mountain is on the loose and hiding in plain sight at Rhodes Island, working as a 6* Brawler Guard who can debuff enemy ATK, hit multiple targets at once, and/ or Push enemies to their deaths.

Brawler Guards haven’t had the best reputation in Arknights up to this point, but Mountain is looking to change that. There are three weaknesses that Brawler Guards have had to surmount:

  1. Block-1 limits the number of enemies they can realistically fight in a single battle.
  2. Low DEF makes it hard for them to stand toe-to-toe with the difficult enemies you’d like them to duel.
  3. Low ATK means they struggle to dent high-DEF enemies. Their ASPD doesn’t mean much if each hit fails to do meaningful damage.

Mountain’s kit puts in a lot of work to combat these weaknesses. His E1 Talent, Forceful Fist, gives his attacks a chance to be a critical hit and inflict an ATK debuff on his target, while his E2 Talent, Sturdy Constitution, permanently grants him a DEF increase and a small chance of Physical Dodge. Moving onto his Skills, his S2 is a state-shifting Skill called Sweeping Stance. When activated, Mountain loses some DEF and attack range in exchange for a large ATK buff, HP regeneration, Block +1, and the ability to hit multiple enemies equal to his Block count. This allows Mountain to handle large waves of enemies like a mini-AoE Guard. If you need more power in a shorter time, however, try Earth-Shattering Smash. Mountain attacks more slowly for the duration of this Skill, but his attacks target up to three nearby enemies with two hits per punch. He also gains increased ATK, an increased chance to trigger Forceful Fist, and a moderate Push effect on his hits. The Push is especially important—it can be used to Push enemies into lethal pits, but it also increases Mountain’s survivability by interrupting enemy attacks and giving him a breather while they run back up to him.

Even with all these advantages, Mountain isn’t immune to his archetype’s weaknesses. His base ATK is still relatively low for a 6* Guard, so he has trouble defeating high-DEF opponents without help. His survivability can also be iffy when his Talents don’t trigger or when his enemy is too heavy to Push with Earth-Shattering Smash. However, between his low DP cost and multi-target damage, Mountain can easily be deployed early in a battle to chew through hordes of foes without breaking a sweat, giving his allies space to focus on a stronger boss or elite that Mountain may not be as well-equipped to handle.

Newbie Tier List Explanation

A strong Operator at all strages of the game. Low DP cost, good lane holder, and good survivability make him great and easy to use for new players.

S2M3 S+ S+
S3M1 Breakpoint
S3M3 A A
Like the other cornerstone units, Mountain's value in that role comes down to a specific skill which for him is S2. And like Blaze/Thorns, since Cornerstones are so central to team comps, S2M3 should be highly prioritized. It is incredibly valuable in his role, greatly amping up both his damage and sustain.

However his S3 should not be ignored as it is a tremendous DPS skill. Those who wish to use Mountain for more than brain-dead map clears will especially want to focus on it. However since his S2 is so strong and 6★ M3s are so expensive, it is hard to call S3M3 mandatory for most players, but be sure you at least get the S3M1 breakpoint.

Profile

The son of a top Columbian construction CEO, Mountain and his entire family were put in prison after they were framed by a rival corporation. He enlisted in Rhodes Island upon his escape.
Mountain possesses a physique naturally fit for combat, and he is currently active as a Guard Operator and on the frontlines of a variety of missions.

Clinical Analysis

Increase Trust to 25.
Imaging tests have shown the outlines of his internal organs to be indistinct due to abnormal shadows. Originium granules have been detected in his circulatory system, confirming his to be infected with Oripathy.

[Cell-Originium Assimilation] 5%
Small amounts of crystals distributed across surface of Operator's body.

[Blood Originium-Crystal Density] 0.22u/L
According to Mountain's personal account, he contracted Oripathy while he was still in prison. Although the disease's spread has been slow thanks to his physique and the relatively luxurious living conditions he enjoyed, owing to the fact that he only had access to limited, insufficient medical facilities in prison, his condition can hardly be considered optimistic.

A well-composed male Feline with a large build.
Although his fierce appearance may suggest otherwise, he always approaches everyone around him with grace. Thanks to this dissonance, Mountain became quite the talk of the town when he first arrived at Rhodes Island. Furthermore, even though he is by no means a humble man, neither is he arrogant, and this has helped him become fast friends with many of our operators.
He doesn't hide the fact that he comes from an affluent background and that he is well-versed in all matters pertaining to high society, but he never takes pride in this fact and rarely brings up the topic himself.

Mountain is very demanding of his own combat abilities, and he is constantly training to better himself. Ever since he first arrived at Rhodes Island, this fact has never failed to catch his fellow operators by surprise.
It is certainly understandable why they would think that. After all, with just his natural-born might, Mountain is already able to take on many of our operators, and his combat abilities certainly leave little to be desired. Even prior to his enlistment, Mountain's abilities more than satisfied our mid-to-high-difficulty missions' participation requirements.
However, this was not enough for him.
This may be a result of how he personally sees his strength. To him, he still has a long way to go until he is truly strong, and having encountered all these formidable operators at Rhodes Island has only reinforced this thinking.
On the other hand, it may also have to do with his own objectives. He hasn't ever revealed his goal to anyone, but it is obvious he is working towards bringing it to fruition and that he needs to become even stronger in order to do so.
Simply put, you might want to pay the training room a visit in the evenings if he isn't out on missions. You might just be able to catch a breathtaking showdown there.

[Classified Log]
I've talked to Silence already. During our conversation, she didn't really display the kind of determination she had for her own actions that Kal'tsit said she had. It seems she has gone through quite a bit herself, though that doesn't change the fact there are certain things that I cannot tell her right now.
Kal'tsit didn't agree to help them because she was convinced by Silence's honesty; there likely isn't anyone other than Amiya who could manage to do that.
Kal'tsit agreed because Mountain is worth something to Rhodes Island. This is the biggest reason.
Now, Kal'tsit didn't really tell me what he's worth, and my guess is she couldn't be bothered to tell me, but it isn't very hard to figure out what exactly it is. Mountain can cut open new paths, and through these new paths, we can get into places that we couldn't have otherwise. He might also be a trump card, especially one that can be used to negotiate with Rhine Lab.
Well, saying this makes me feel like I'm a baddie... Whatever, only a few people have the clearance to read this anyway.
To tell the truth, though, if we don't have to, I'm not sure I'd want to get on Rhine Lab's bad side. Since we're working together, it's better to just stick with the status quo. I'm sure Kal'tsit doesn't want to cross them, either. Which means that while Mountain does have some utility in that sense, she probably isn't thinking of using him that way for the time being.
This also means that, to put it in less flattering terms, Mountain is just a refugee that Rhodes Island chose to take in.
Feels kinda like it's more or less the same thing we always do.
After all, we get a lot of folks with pretty messed up pasts. You could probably say what Mountain's been through was cute, compared to those guys. With traumatic pasts a dime a dozen here, what's the harm in taking him in?
I'm not trying to be condescending or anything. He's a fine, young man, and he knows what's appropriate and not in all kinds of situations. Most young folks these days aren't sharp like that, tsk tsk.
Anyway, I've had a little chat with him and everyone else who was involved in the jailbreak. To avoid attracting any unwanted attention, we'll keep everything that has to do with Rhine Lab and the jailbreak classified; anything else is fair game, though—Looking at the information I got afterwards, it looks like all the info about his jailbreak was suppressed, so I suppose all this hush-hush is working.
He also promised me that he'll at the very least let us know in advance if he ever decides to do anything against Rhine Lab, so I guess everyone's happy.

Mountain isn't one to shy from sharing his prison stories. If you're curious about prison life, you could do worse than asking him directly.
However, it would be in our best interest to simply ignore the invitation he extended to the Doctor.
This isn't to say he was trying to deceive the Doctor. On the contrary, it was perhaps his way of showing sincerity to one whom he trusts.
That may be the case, but that is also exactly why we shouldn't take him seriously. It doesn't matter how powerful he used to be in prison. It doesn't change the fact that he was a felon.
The reason he said that was most likely because he had nothing to his name.
His family is still serving time elsewhere, and there is nothing he can do to get his revenge right now. He used to be a pampered rich kid, and now he has to go incognito at a pharma company after spending six years behind bars. He may seem very calm, but I can say for sure that this came as a huge shock to him.
The only thing that he has is probably the name he made for himself at Mansfield State Prison. His reputation there may just have been an illusion, but it is nonetheless something he built from the ground up himself.
This isn't to suggest he's too wrapped up in something that's not real. What I am trying to say is that every time he says that, he's actually making fun of himself as well as reminding himself that this, too, is part of his past.
Of course, we cannot eliminate the possibility that Mountain will actually reclaim what is rightfully his one day and take over the prison out of nostalgia. He might even invite the Doctor there as a guest.
He probably could pull it off.

Many of our operators have seen that other side of Mountain on those missions where he has to truly give it his all. His sharp fangs and his fierce appearance are almost like the embodiment of violence.
Mountain is fully aware of this himself, and he doesn't ever ask those whom he has scared to look at him any other way.
However, contrary to his expectations, he wasn't ostracized by any of our operators because of this.
This is undoubtedly because we have other operators who fight in far scarier ways here; everyone has gotten used to this long ago. It likely also has to do with the fact his fierceness on the field hasn't changed how courteous he normally is—
A person who's brutal on his enemies can still be likable to his friends and family. Once they realize that his graciousness isn't a mere social pretense, most would naturally come to understand that his ferocity and his friendliness are two sides of the same coin.
However, it's likely that he isn't aware of this himself.
After all, he himself claims that his composure, his calm, and his politeness are all just a mask, a facade. Yet there likely wasn't ever a facade; personalities are more complicated than that. His excuse is more like a kind of self-loathe towards his violent side, and he loathes this violent side of his because he strives to be even more calm and polite.
Suppose he's actually wearing a mask as he says, though. If a person has been wearing a mask each and every day for decades, then who can say for sure that is actually a mask?
Of course, we aren't trying to say there's anything wrong with Mountain; he isn't abandoning his violent ways as a means of rejecting them, after all. Yet there is perhaps an idea that he's going to need to learn during his time here in Rhodes Island: He needn't feel ashamed for this.
After all, we all know that he never fights anyone undeserving of his rage.

Voice Lines

Appointed as Assistant It's a good thing to be alert, Doctor. Well, please continue with your work. Rest assured, I'm here to protect you.
Talk 1 I've met plenty of people who claim to practice martial arts, but they are all just weaklings putting up a front. Not that girl, Waai Fu, however. She's an interesting one... and although she still has a ways to go, I look forward to fighting her once she grows up.
Talk 2 Rhodes Island doesn't have a cellar, you say? Now that won't do. Alcohol is indispensable. Not only is it something that can be savored and enjoyed, you can also drown your sorrows with it. So there you have it, Doctor. Get a cellar built. I dare say I know a thing or two about alcohol, should you need my assistance.
Talk 3 I built a library back in Mansfield, but most of the books I could get my hands on there were Columbian. It gets boring after a while. The collection there simply doesn't hold a candle to what Rhodes Island has. The library here has a sizable collection of literature from other countries. It's marvelous.
Talk after Promotion 1 When you find yourself in the face of oppression, it is futile to even try to come up with countermeasures... I used to believe that, but I later realized that there's no power out there that's absolute. At the very least, I don't have that kind of power, and that's why I'll never look down on anything again, no matter how insignificant.
Talk after Promotion 2 I used to think that Rhodes Island was just another Mansfield, a prison of 'freedom.' And you. You are me. You are a prisoner of freedom. You are the king. Yet now I know that's not the case. This is not a prison, and you are the friend of everyone here.
Talk after Trust Increase 1 Are the ones over there from Rhine Lab? Don't worry. I don't really have a grudge about Rhine Lab itself, and they are my colleagues now. I wouldn't do anything that gives you a headache. It's just I may have something to ask them one of these days.
Talk after Trust Increase 2 Doctor, do you have some time later? Let me take you out for a drink... Oh, it's nothing important. I merely have a few secrets that I'd really like to get off my chest. I haven't made a new friend for a long time, after all.
Talk after Trust Increase 3 You are a very good friend, Doctor. When I have everything sorted out, should I still be alive, do pay Mansfield a visit. That is my kingdom, and I am willing to share all that I have there with you.
Idle For you to fall asleep so defenselessly in the company of others... I can't tell if you are being trusting or negligent.
Onboard I owe Rhodes Island my life, so allow me to be completely honest, Doctor. I am going after a certain department within Rhine Lab. If you don't want your relationship with them ruined, now is the time to turn me away.
Watching Battle Record Battlefield experience, huh? Indeed, that's something that I don't have. Thank you, Doctor.
Promotion 1 Doctor, don't be afraid. I don't fight anyone undeserving of my rage.
Promotion 2 Doctor, take a good look. That mask of composure, calm, and politeness is off. This is the truest you'll ever find me. Bloodthirsty, violent, and destructive. Look at me and be my friend.
Added to Squad Perfect. It's just about time to get a little exercise in.
Appointed as Squad Leader I'm the leader, so follow my lead.
Depart Let's go.
Begin Operation Never underestimate the enemy.
Selecting Operator 1 I'm right here.
Selecting Operator 2 Where would you like me?
Deployment 1 I'll hold myself back.
Deployment 2 I won't let them go much further.
In Battle 1 Face me!
In Battle 2 Haven't had breakfast? Come with all you've got!
In Battle 3 Bring it on, you scoundrels!
In Battle 4 Warm-up's over!
4-star Result A precarious situation is the perfect opportunity to better ourselves, but we must also know our own limits.
3-star Result Doctor, there is no need to put ourselves in the spotlight when the time's not right.
Sub 3-star Result Unnecessary violence is just a way to blow off steam. I got myself under control a long time ago.
Operation Failure As long as we're still alive, that's hardly a defeat.
Assigned to Facility The ceiling here is a little low, isn't it?
Tap Huh?
Trust Tap Doctor, why don't we discuss these books?
Title Arknights.
Greeting Stay alert, Doctor.

Description:
Immovable as the mountains; this four-word phrase from Yen seems as if it was tailor-made for him. Place Mountain on the battlefield, and he'll strike awe into his enemies, just as an eternally insurmountable summit.
The more enemies there are, the more his value is magnified. Therefore, deploy him where enemies are forced to cross him, and he won't let you down.
Immovable as the mountains; immovable as his name.
