Botzu's Quick Evaluation

+ Archetype: Greatly decreased redeployment time
+ Talent: Can summon a clone. The clone has the same skill as Phantom and has a seperate redeployment time.
+ Great crowd control and assassination Skill options
+ S3: A very long duration of AOE crowd control when combined with his clone
+ S2: front-loads his damage so even against hard hitting enemies you can get out a lot of damage before death
+ His clone can block enemies and serve as a great distraction
= Without Potentials he can become very DP expensive after multiple redeploys
- His clone cooldown is much longer than Phantom himself, so it can be tricky to coordinate with his clone if you redeploy him quickly

Operator Overview

"This darkness is a refuge, a throne, and paradise. The spirits of the dead have never left, and I’ve cursed the world from atop their bones... Seeing me as I am now, do you still want to hear my song? Do you still dare... to stand before me?"

The assassin Phantom: the survivor of a destroyed theater troupe with a voice that inspires madness, now a killer who brings death beneath a moonless sky. Though many have tried to track down this murderer, none have been successful. Many members of Rhodes Island believe there is no Operator called “Phantom” at all! But he exists: a versatile 6 Fast-Redeploy Specialist with vast utility who sends enemies of Rhodes Island past the point of no return. And he does it only for you.

Phantom’s defining feature is his ability to create a clone of himself through his Talent, Phantom in the Mirror. The clone uses Phantom’s equipped Skill, disappears if Phantom dies or retreats, and has its own separate redeploy timer, which is greatly reduced by Phantom’s E2 Talent, Phantom Mastery. (It also wears a terrifying cat mask with empty eyes. I’d hate to see that thing at a masquerade ball.)

As a 6★ Operator, Phantom has three Skills. All three trigger automatically when Phantom is deployed (making them the overture to his performance), and each serves a different purpose:

  1. Phantom of the Night temporarily gives Phantom an HP shield and a Physical Dodge buff. This is a stalling or blocking Skill, giving you two Operators (Phantom and his clone) that can be dropped down to block gaps in your defense or to soak enemy damage/ skills.
  2. Bloody Opus gives Phantom multiple stacks of an ATK buff. One stack is consumed every time he attacks until the buff runs out, at which point you can retreat and redeploy him to refresh the stacks. This is his assassination Skill, used to eliminate key enemy targets.
  3. Night Raid causes Phantom to deal damage in an AoE around him when deployed. All enemies affected are pushed away and inflicted with a random movement-impairing debuff: Slow, Bind, or Stun. This is a crowd-control Skill, and it’s surprisingly spammable thanks to the low cooldown on Phantom’s clone: deploy the clone to trigger the Skill, retreat it immediately, then deploy our dear old friend again for another round of CC.

Phantom is not an easy Operator to use (you might say he’s something of a prima donna). Like other Fast-Redeploy Operators, his base stats are mediocre--especially for a 6 unit--and constantly redeploying both him and his clone to maximize their effectiveness can quickly burn through your DP reserves. However, a creative Doctor can make great use of this angel of music’s ability to be set down once more, over and over again, in a fight to adjust the flow of battle. All he asks of you is to look with your heart and see the beauty underneath. Are you ready to begin?

Newbie Tier List Explanation

Phantom gives you two fast-redeploy Operators in 1 edgy package. Great damage and crowd control potential, but can get DP-expensive very quickly with multiple redeploys.

Elite Promotion Discussion

  • 3rd Skill - Night Raid - This version of the Phantom is less interested in "music of the night" and more focused on "murder of the night." Night Raid is a damaging AoE attack used immediately upon deployment that pushes targets away and inflicts either Stun, Slow, or Bind. The random nature of the ailment can be troublesome, but if you don't get the ailment you want when you drop Phantom, you can throw down his clone as well for a second chance!

  • Talent 2 - Phantom Mastery - This E2 Talent reduces the redeployment time of Phantom's clone by 10 seconds. If you're very active about retreating and redeploying Phantom and his clone, you're probably chafing at the clone's 45-second redeploy timer at E1. Reducing the time to 35 seconds gives you a lot more flexibility in repositioning this lethal Operator(s)!

  • Talent 1 upgrade Phantom in the Mirror - Promoting to E2 improves Phantom's clone so it has higher base stats. Since the clone also gets stronger as Phantom levels, promoting to E2 also gives Phantom an extra 90 levels to power up his clone even further!

Skill Discussion

Clone Info:
  • Deploy cost is fixed and never increases.
  • Clone dies if Phantom dies.
  • Clone redeploy cooldown/ redeploy starts ticking the moment it's deployed. You can instantly redeploy the clone if it's been out long enough. Unknown if this is a bug or a feature.

S2M3 A A- A
S3M3 B+ A B

Phantom has seen his relative value decline quite a bit thanks to the recent abundance of other high-caliber Fast-Redeploys. His DPS was always a little questionable thanks due the cheaper Projekt Red having a strong minimum damage niche, but he has only fared worse since the introduction of ridiculously powerful units like Texas the Omertosa, Kirin R Yato, and Ines. His value has especially fallen in the Roguelike thanks to how strong Specialists have become in general.

Should you want to promote Phantom anyway (and he is still more than usable), he has two skills worth consideration. S2 is his primary DPS skill, but S3 is his more unique skill in the context of the current FRD landscape. Previously, his S2 was the clear winner here, but that DPS role is so minor these days (the stacking aspect is a big issue for general usability) that you will likely want to pursue his more unique S3 instead. However, the extra layer at S2M3 makes a big difference to his damage, so it will still be worthwhile if you want to regularly use Phantom.

Integrated Strategies Tier List Explanation

General IS Notes

+ Second most popular specialist for this gamemode.
+ Massive versatility and very low redeployment timer allows him to find some use in most maps.
+ S2: Powerful assassination capabilities.
- Multiple redeploys can be DP-intensive.

IS2 Specific Notes

One of the best options against Boss 3, can handle its gimmick with ease.

Good Relics

Rusted Blade - No Man's Land

Relic Interactions

Extra quick redeployment makes Phantom even more powerful against the third boss and allows for incredible control of the battlefield.

Recommended Promotion

E2 strongly recommended for access to S3 and Masteries.

Module Analysis

Operator Impact: High

Meta Use: High

Explanation: This is a great module for this unit, directly addressing one his biggest challenges: his high redeployment cost. DP costs increase by 1.5 times on the second deploy of an operator, and double on all deployments after that.  For a Potential-1 Phantom, that means his DP costs for deployment go 10 -> 15 -> 20 ->20 ...  If you throw in an extra 5 DP for each clone deployment, Phantom's DP consumption can get pretty high.

Typically, Operators receive a 50% refund of their deploy costs when they are retreated, so the above Phantom would regain 5 -> 7 -> 10 -> 10 DP refunded for each respective deployment.  The Module increases the amount of DP refunded on retreat from 50% to 80%.  This makes the refund for each retreat: 8 -> 12 -> 16 -> 16 for a DP GAIN  of 3 -> 5 ->  6 -> 6 for each retreat. Considering Phantom's high DP costs, gaining an 6 DP for every retreat can make a huge difference if you need to use him a lot.

Keep in mind, however, that Operators receive NO DP Refund if they die or are forcibly retreated, so this module won't help if Phantom is being used to soak damage and is dying.

Profile

Phantom, an assassin who has acted independently in Victoria and surrounding areas, has been difficult to identify in the past, and his previous history has not yet been fully verified.
He has now joined Rhodes Island as a specialist and boasts exceptional combat capabilities, but must be treated with caution.

Clinical Analysis

Increase Trust to 25.
Imaging tests have shown the outlines of his internal organs to be indistinct due to abnormal shadows. Originium granules have been detected in his circulatory system, confirming him to be infected with Oripathy.

[Cell-Originium Assimilation] 14%
Significant crystal distribution is visible on the surface of the body. Considering the peculiar location of the crystals, the voice of Operator Phantom may have undergone serious changes.

[Blood Originium-Crystal Density] 0.35u/L
Phantom's prognosis based upon his current infection status is poor, and there is potential for further deterioration.

He has a slightly negative view towards medical treatment. I am afraid that if this continues, there will be little that can be done for him even in the best medical setting.

When Phantom first set foot on Rhodes Island, he terrified the logistics personnel who were on duty at the time. He suddenly appeared behind one individual, standing there without a word until the person turned around to discover his presence. After the incident, the ship's monitoring and deterrence facilities were given thorough, all-around upgrades. In the words of a rare angered Closure, 'even if he is just a shadow, he should never be allowed to board the landship without permissions ever again. It's just far too arrogant.'
Phantom was quite frank about his work as an independent assassin. As the general public is quite aware of the nature of this profession, this quiet assassin from Victoria usually keeps a low profile and has few words to say, even after becoming an employee. Phantom has also disclosed little about his prior experiences.
Accompanying Phantom on his arrival to Rhodes Island was a person as mysterious and alluring as the night itself, someone known as 'Ms. Christine.' Through her demeanor, it was clear that she was a refined and haughty woman. No one knows whether she will remain or leave, and she is not always seen with Phantom, instead happy enough to wander around as if quietly patrolling her turf.

Appendix
Three suggestions when encountering Ms. Christine:
1. Never touch Ms. Christine. Wait for her to approach, and accept when she leaves.
2. Show a respectful attitude towards her, as if deferring to a beautiful maiden.
3. Maintain a pleasant demeanor.

Phantom's natural talent for Arts was affected when he contracted Oripathy, after which an astonishing transformation occurred. The metastasis of Originium crystals deep into his throat gave him a unique and dangerous ability.
After receiving his permission, Rhodes Island conducted a series of tests aimed at targeting this ability, basically confirming that Phantom's ability to alter the shadows is related to sound. By using his throat to vocalize certain sounds, he is able to interfere with and severely damage the psyche of a living being. The more intense the emotion in the tone, the deeper the effect is, producing psychological damage that is difficult to repair or reverse.
Considering the operator's special circumstances and his personal desires, Phantom's infection monitoring device has been modified by the R&D Department to be equipped with special functions that can suppress his infection symptoms to ensure that he is able to live a normal life in Rhodes Island without hindrances.

Before becoming a lone assassin, Phantom was a part of a traveling performance troupe, touring and putting on shows for a living. We can infer from our investigations that a wave of Oripathy that ripped through parts of Victoria a few years ago destroyed this troupe, and changed the trajectory of Phantom's life. He may have had a wonderful voice in the past, but as he is now, he could not be further from the stage.
Even in Rhodes Island, there are many operators who have never directly met Phantom, with some insisting that there is no such operator named Phantom at all. Currently, only a small handful of people actually have any understanding of this operator.
As an aside, the only time I came in contact with Phantom was when I was looking for the Doctor prior to writing this file. I was only able to find Phantom through the Doctor.

'Indeed, I've heard some rumors about this 'troupe' and what happened behind the scenes.
I can also tell you about the impressions I now have about him, but it may not be of any use to you, because there's a good chance you won't listen.
But if you insist? Very well.
I don't have much to say, but there is one suggestion.
—Stay away from him. He's still caught in a nightmare, not fully awake yet.'

—A conversation with Schwarz

[Classified Log]
We found the site of the incident that befell the troupe at the time. The site is a small rural town that was destroyed by a wave of Oripathy. Anyone who could have fled did so long ago, and now the area is completely deserted.
Too much time had passed, so we didn't have much hope in the first place. And indeed, everything here seems to have been forgotten... Seeing this photo should make that clear enough. It's just like one of those fabled ghost towns. All the residences, facilities, and public spaces have been preserved as is, including the troupe's tents stationed in the park, just like in the records - the only thing that's missing are the residents.

The live video of the troupe's performance has been completely destroyed, and the machinery left behind is broken beyond repair. However, we did locate a main console far from the stage, where we managed to recover some damaged documents and externally backed-up data.
Despite our painstaking efforts to restore the damaged data, the contents are just a jumbled mess. The best way to describe it is as if a piece of cake was sealed within a plastic bag, then thrown into a fervent crowd at an Iberian festival. What we managed to recover is pretty similar to whatever would be left in that bag afterwards. As for the portion of the data that was sent out, the path was too vague and could not be tracked.

In order to verify the content, we played a portion of the video footage that could be considered somewhat intact. While doing so, three of the investigators present experienced degrees of psychological disturbance, so we were forced to temporarily seal off the remaining files.
What exactly happened back then? And who exactly would want to preserve such a scene, and why?
I dare not entertain the possibilities in my head, for they would be inconceivable.

Selecting Operator 1 I'm with you.
Selecting Operator 2 So, let us sink into the night.
Deployment 1 I come from the shadows.
Deployment 2 Hear my voice. Hear my song.
In Battle 1 Do you see your own face in the mirror?
In Battle 2 The actors are all puppets of the script.
In Battle 3 The guilty... will be punished.
In Battle 4 Yes, lift your voices! Sing for me! Sing for me!
4-star Result Is this the victory your leadership has brought about...?
3-star Result It is over. Victory is not sweet, as conflict always leaves an aftertaste.
Sub 3-star Result They escaped. Fortunate for them... and perhaps for me as well.
Operation Failure Fall back... You've already lost your way.
Assigned to Facility Hm? Behind this mirror, there seems...
Tap What is it?
Trust Tap The sound of these footsteps... It's you, Doctor.
Title Arknights.
Greeting The shadow behind you looks heavier than it was yesterday, Doctor.

Description:
The enemy mills forth; the vanguard team's defensive perimeter is under attack!
A sublime assassin can appear on the battlefield at any time, in any corner, strikes true, and never lingers.
You needn't seize his silhouette; know only that he uses the terrain and his own ability, dispatching those foes who would perplex with nary a whisper, alleviating his team's pressure.
For Phantom, getting used to coordinating with his teammates and choosing the right time to strike will still take some practice.
