罗德岛本舰的情况与事先搜集得来的信息基本无出入。公司具有一定常规武装力量,用于护送物资及处理小规模感染者纠纷,暂未发现在武装冲突中借助几位岁兽代理人力量的记录。
除此之外,在罗德岛上发现了不少来自各国的重要人物。大理寺卿麟青砚与罗德岛有所来往事先已有了解,但是魏公的外甥女陈家小姐竟然也与罗德岛有交集?之前只听说她辞去了近卫局警司的工作,但她出现在一家矿石病制药公司里的确出人意料。
暂时没有发现她与岁兽代理人之间的联系。

7月9日:
上午九点,年走入了工程部一间工坊,行踪颇为可疑,时至下午五点才从那间工坊中走出。经调查发现,当日有三名工程部干员也在工坊内,与年进行打麻将的娱乐活动,三人分别输给年121.5、76、59龙门币。依炎律,金额尚不构成诈骗罪或赌博罪。

当截云小姐逮着左乐来到我们这里时,我们只好给截云小姐一个表彰以鼓励她的安全意识,并且决定再和左乐先生好好谈一次。
年小姐和她的兄弟姐妹皆是以访客的身份暂驻罗德岛,虽然他们几乎没有同时出现在舰上的时候,可他们的身份之特殊,不管哪一位都够分量引来足够的关注......时至今日,我们也差不多习惯了和那些来自大国势力的各种大人物们打交道。何况偌大的司岁台,只派一个秉烛人来罗德岛,这本身也算是一种友好——至少是非敌意的表态。
最终,我们默许了左乐以自己的方式对于这几位来自炎国的特殊访客密切关注——在不激怒他们的前提下。不过这是左乐先生的专业领域,相信他会有办法的。
经历了那么多风风雨雨后,希望这样姑且还算平静的日子再多一点,也希望左乐能以合作干员的身份和大家相处融洽吧。

在炎国古老的史书中,“巨兽”相关的问题占据了相当的篇幅。早在千百年前,炎国人就打破了对“神明”的古朴信仰,并产生了与现今的“巨兽”相对应的概念。
炎国学士偶然在大地上发现一处被认为是“神明遗骸”的地貌,状若尸骨的山体高耸入云,破落的石拱上遍布空洞,不计其数的微小生命在其中繁衍生息,它们的骨骼在空洞中织出了细密的结构。骨骸之下,遍野都是枯槁的草木和腐败的残躯,但枯朽处又不断有苍翠的新生萌发。也正是从这时起,炎国学士认识到巨兽并非神明,而是更接近可被研究理解的“生物”。从那一刻开始,“秉烛人”的职责便应运而生。“明烛以驱巨兽之影,巡游以察社稷之患。”这是秉烛人最初的信条。“秉烛”这一意象,或许来源于炎国人提灯照明,走入那一片巨兽遗迹的画面,自然也有洞察物理,求索真相的含义在其中。

1087年10月,玉门城曾有过一次极隐秘的军事行动。
玉门西北方四十公里以外的地方,监测到了一只名为■的巨兽的活动痕迹。该巨兽曾于一千年前离开炎国本土,不知什么原因重新开始活动。在收到信使带来的情报后,玉门立即进入特级战备状态。城内五支高速战舰编队尽数奔赴前线,除此之外还从龙门抽调了两支战舰编队。战舰和移动城市行驶时卷起的沙尘遮天蔽日,但依然可以看到,视野尽头,缓缓移动的“群山的轮廓”。经过了整整两天的对峙后,巨兽开始向西南方向移动,远离了炎国本土。
当时站在核心城城头上的,除了守城将领左宣辽、数十名资深天师外,还有一个年仅四岁的孩子。
“那是什么?”
“我们的敌人。”

左乐在来到罗德岛后,几乎将所有空余时间都投入在了磨练自身的战斗技艺上。他会积极向来自各个地区的干员请教不同风格、适用于不同场合的作战技术。也经常尝试和其他干员切磋比试,偶尔狼狈地被槐琥放倒在地,或者是在长途赛跑中输给格拉尼,也只是不慌不忙请对方指出自己的问题所在......勤恳训练,却又不那么执着于输赢,就好像只是为了修身养性一样。对于这个年纪的人来说,这种心态是不是太“早熟”了点?而且他连作息时间都开始和重岳先生趋近了......
“我到现在才明白,练武就和种庄稼一样,松懈不得,却也急不得。我能做的,只有一步一个脚印,做好当下的事......我从第一天学轻功开始,就一直在追着什么,贼寇、逃犯、父亲的要求、更为优秀的前辈......但是在大荒城,我第一次追着一头牧兽。站在田野上,看到的风景是不一样的。”
左乐津津乐道的,还有他在大荒城“受罚”的一段时光。在那里他认识了各种农作物,学着自己种下几株庄稼,和那里的天师还有职农们一起收获......言语间竟多是怀念。对左乐来说,那些辽阔的田野,一望无际的庄稼,成了他人生中除了玉门和百灶之外第三种重要的风景。

左乐在闲聊时和别人说起过,他出身于玉门,一座炎国北方的军事城市。从记事起便过着与父亲无异——亦与每一位守城将士无异的军营生活。少年时常常冒着禁令在城墙上攀上爬下,因此被父亲狠狠责罚,也因此被那位大名鼎鼎的宗师传授了轻功。与士兵较量骑射,也曾跟随巡逻队伍混出关,只为看一眼山谷间日落阳关的奇景......当他站在玉门城楼上,向西望去,是看不到头的戈壁与荒漠,向东望,是依稀可见的村落和移动城市。“护万民安生”,左乐第一次从父亲口中听到这句话,便深深记在了心里。而就在那不久后,左乐便被安排去了留在京城的母亲身边,同时在百灶的学宫学习。
“我曾以为父亲让我从小经历沙场,是想让我成为和他一样的军人。我以为我也做好了那样的准备......戍守一生,或是兽革裹尸,那样的一生应当是光荣的。但是父亲送我回京城时,展露出我从未见过的坚决态度。那天我刚从军营回到家,就已经看到了被打包好的行李和准备好的长途载具,我几乎是被父亲塞到了车里......后来,虽然有母亲在身边教导,但那到底是完全不一样的生活。”
在左乐的描述中,炎国京城百灶是座庄严的城市。“百灶”这个名字本就有着无比厚重的含义。其建筑之雄伟,大概远胜这片大地上其他任何一座移动城市。眼前所见高不可攀的楼宇,肃穆的学宫,还有望不到头的宫墙——其实根本不用他人教导,这座城市本身即是一种庄严的规训,来到百灶的第一天起,“规矩”二字便被烙在了心头。或许左乐原本会安安稳稳地完成学业,在稍微有些久远的将来成为像梁洵那样的官员。固然责任沉重,束缚诸多,但比起身处玉门那样的前线到底要安全不少。而左乐之所以担任起风险并不亚于战场厮杀的秉烛人工作,还要追溯到那天,左乐深夜在学宫书阁中查阅历史资料时,遇到了一位老人......
闲谈到此为止。
从玉门战场到百灶学宫,再到四处奔波的秉烛人,以左乐的年龄来说,他的阅历确实丰富。罗德岛与这位年轻人的相遇还要追溯到克洛丝干员尚蜀之行的任务报告里。尚蜀的争纷、玉门的天灾与大荒城的危机,我们都通过相关干员有所了解。左乐虽然不是每次都站在事件中心,但也总是站在危险的最前线。虽然只是记录转述,但听到那些危险的场面,我确实有点钦佩这个年轻人了。有沉重的责任落在他的肩膀上,但他也向来站得挺拔,少年眼里有一团火。唉,不能再写这些抒情的话了。我只是忍不住想,虽然他现在还是代表着来自炎国官方监管的立场,但说不定以后可以有其他更深入的合作呢?理想主义者的路总是相近的,何况他已经开始利用自身特长帮后勤部门搬运物资了。
