Hange Ame
Expand
Hange Ame (a Touhou LW original) refers to early July rains, which often turn torrential. This is a perfect temperament for Kogasa, the karakasa-obake, who, even as a resident of the eternal summer world, loves the rain.

Her umbrella functions as a parasol to block the heat! (Strong against Fire Phase.)
And, of course, it's still totally waterproof! (Strong against Water Phase.)
Kogasa is a talented blacksmith, so she can reshape her umbrella as she pleases! (Strong against Metal Phase.)
But she still gets blown away by the sea breeze... (Weak against Wood Phase.)

With her umbrella being, well, umbrella-shaped, she will inevitably get carried off by the sea breeze (not to mention washed away by the waves). Baseballs get carried by the wind too, but for Kogasa, maybe that's not such a bad thing.

Character Shots

The Spread Shot of Kogasa Tatara from the world delirious with eternal summer (a Touhou LW original). The baseball she strikes multiplies in this attack. What benefit is there to a multiplying hit, you say? It'll surprise the fielders and they won't know which ball to go after. While they're panicking, you can round the bases! No one can agree whether the batter is out if the fielders catch one of the balls, or if they have to catch all of them.

The Focus Shot of Kogasa Tatara from the world delirious with eternal summer (a Touhou LW original). She skillfully swings and hits in this attack. In theory, you can control the flight of a baseball by adjusting what part of the bat you strike it with and how much power you use. But when one comes hurtling at you, is it really possible to make such fine adjustments? Kogasa's great at dodging bullets, but that doesn't really come in handy here.

A Spell Card of Kogasa Tatara from the world delirious with eternal summer (a Touhou LW original). Whether intentionally or not, she strikes the ball directly back at the pitcher. It's likely this Spell Card was originally known as Umbrella Sign: One-Legged Return Hit. The SUN in the name seems to be a pun based on an alternative reading of the Japanese character for umbrella. Speaking of the sun, it seems natural to assume this world's eternal summer is connected to the sun. But if that's the case, how could you get things back to normal?

A Spell Card of Kogasa Tatara from the world delirious with eternal summer (a Touhou LW original). She recalls a somewhat lonely stadium. It's likely this Spell Card was originally known as Leaping Umbrella: Stormy Weather Surprise. It's common for normal matches to be cut short if the weather is particularly bad. But since the rain doesn't affect Kogasa, she excels at times like that. Even after all the spectators have left, she keeps playing. Domed stadiums really are a great innovation...

The Last Word of Kogasa Tatara from the world delirious with eternal summer (a Touhou LW original). Whatever type of ball comes flying at her, she strikes it back and secures four points. Striking baseballs (and iron) is what Kogasa does best. Her skill has surpassed the realm of youkai and is closer to that of the gods. But for Kogasa, that's beside the point. She's on the eternally sunny beach, focused on improving her swing. Her goal is to one day hit a breathtaking grand slam in front of a packed stadium. Until she sees that look of surprise on thousands of faces, she'll be on the beach practicing.

Character Ability

Capable of surprising humans (Beach)
Expand
The ability of Kogasa Tatara from the world delirious with eternal summer (a Touhou LW original). This Kogasa's ability is not all that different to the Kogasas from other worlds. Since learning about baseball, she's been diligently practicing her swing. Youkai aren't known for taking things seriously, but Kogasa needs to surprise people to survive.

As Kogasa was reading the free tengu newspaper aloud, she came across the headline ''Bullet Battle Ball Sport Festival: Occult Bowl Gets Underway!'' She pictured a huge stadium packed with youkai and humans and began imagining winning the whole tournament in front of the crowd. ''I could surprise enough people to never go hungry again,'' she thought. She had no interest in the Wishing Ball that would be given to the winner but figured she could use the prospect of the free wish it grants to attract teammates. After all, there were no solo sports in the Occult Bowl. You needed to register as a team to take part, and baseball was far from the only sport on the event list.

''Gather up! Steel Bullet Baseballers!'' Kogasa was on the hunt for as many players and coaches with a talent for bullet battles and ball sports as she could find. The tournament would involve baseball, soccer, volleyball, dodgeball, and more, all played on the beach. It was clear as day that anyone not in a swimsuit would be at a massive disadvantage. Kogasa needed teammates who owned a swimsuit and who were good at ball sports and bullet battles... It seemed inevitable she'd end up with her usual crew.

''Just you wait, village kids! I'm about to give you a big surprise!'' When it came to surprising people, Kogasa had found human children were the best targets. They were too young to try and cover up their surprise and always reacted in the cutest ways. The girls complimented her swimsuit, and the boys blushed as they gave her flowers. Plus, baseball has always been popular among kids!

''Hey, wait. I coulda sworn there were other youkai living in the village besides me...'' said Kogasa. The Hakurei Shrine maiden's face went bright red. Though she would never admit it, there were a fair few youkai hiding in the village. They didn't cause any trouble since they knew the shrine maiden wouldn't stand for it if they did. However, a youkai's pride won't allow them to always live in harmony with those around them. Every now and then, they simply have to stir up trouble. Isn't that right... Banki?! (Sekibanki is often called Banki by her closest youkai friends.)

Character Analysis

Kogasa Tatara (Beach Umbrella Castaway), was released on August 10th 2023 in "Epic Prayer: Beach, Baseball, and…BOO!”. For more up-to-date analysis, be sure to visit the Discord Official Discord Server.

We are familiar with all kinds of hobbies and themes on the beach, such as watermelons, surfing, rockets, skin care, and of course, volleyball, but in a surprise twist, here comes a karakasa obake who has a knack for baseball…by using her umbrella as a bat?! Sekibanki could throw any kind of ball in any kind of throwing style, but Kogasa Tatara never bats an eye when it comes to her focus, abilities and determination in a baseball game on the beach. What kind of surprises can Kogasa pull off with her mastery of this sport? Maybe some home runs? Don’t underestimate her, as you will be surprised with her skills here!

C3 Kogasa Tatara is an Attack-Class Friend who has vast Water and Metal breaking potential, Freeze anomalies to go around and high natural Yang ATK, with a bit of Yang ATK II on top.

As a Attacker

  • Extremely high base Yang ATK stat of 1975.
  • With every bullet either being Water or Metal, if either element is effective against a target, they will get a huge 55% Boost.
  • 2.30 Spirit Power gain comes from Skills 1 and 3 (0.55 for the team and 1.75 for herself) as well as an extra 1.75 from Spell Card 2 Post-ATK.
  • Selfish Yang ATK buffs from Skill 1 and some bullet lines on Shots. Teamwide Yang ATK buffs are achieved from Boosting and via Spell Card 1
  • CRIT ATK buffs from Skill 1 and Last Word Pre-ATK.
  • Slice Scaling with 188% of it on Last Word and 88% on other attacks. Also comes with Agility buffs on Spell Cards.
  • Team Accuracy buff on Skill 3, lasting 5 turns as well.
  • Small CRIT Accuracy buff on Last Word Pre-ATK.
  • CRIT DEF debuffing on all foes from Spell Card 1 Pre-ATK.
  • Debuffs the CRIT Evasion of all foes via Spell Card 1 and Last Word Pre-ATKs.
  • Killers are Human, Fairy, Soul, Aquatic, Swimsuit, Summer, Human Village, Hakurei Shrine and Myouren Temple.

As a Utility

  • Ability allows C3 Kogasa to gain offensive buffs (main ones being Yang ATK and CRIT ATK) when she is inflicted with Burn or Freeze anomalies. Inflicts Freeze on herself with Skill 2.
  • Ability also allows C3 Kogasa to benefit from Paralyze anomalies inflicted on her, thus buffing Agility, Accuracy and Evasion by 1 stage per infliction.
  • Freeze anomalies are inflicted on her enemies via Skill 2, Spell Card 1 and Passive 2 inflict a layer of Freeze on an enemy every turn. These are broken via Spell Card 1 (2P) and Last Word (3P).
  • Poison anomalies inflicted on enemies via Last Word Pre-ATK, and broken at 3P.
  • Removes 2 of her own Binds/Stat Debuffs on Spell Card 2 Post-ATK.
  • Adds a Barrier for herself every turn on Skill 2.

Story Card Recommendations

(Card recommendations last updated on August 09, 2023)

Spell Card

C3 Kogasa wants to keep her Yang ATK and CRIT ATK running for longer than 1 turn, so that will want to be covered. Next up, Spirit Power never hurts so if that is covered, you can freely look to boost her Spell Cards’ power as they can still deal a lot of damage in their own rights with Light and Liquid mainly, as well as Water and Metal if possible.

Yang ATK UP: Let The Oil Money Flow, Ordinary Magician, Members of the Yakumo Family, How Irrational…, Kasen’s Senkai, Nameless Adventurers, By The Underground Lake

CRIT ATK UP: Divine Spirit Tajikarao, Worlds in Hand, New Year’s Shrine Visit VI, Miracle Mallet, Bloody Order, Ordinary Magician

Spirit Power UP: Let The Oil Money Flow, The Witch of Scarlet Dreams, Our Dream, Dancer in the Puddle, Mountain of Faith, Youkai Mountain Anniversary, Road of Liminality’s Ennichi, Frozen-Over Gensokyo

Team Spirit Power UP: Myouren Temple Anniversary, Divine Spirit Tajikarao, Dancers Take the Stage, Utopia Tea Time

Light Bullet Power UP: Puppeteer and Necromancer, Congress of Sages, Mountain of Faith, Silver Gale

Liquid Bullet Power UP: Two Girl Rock Band, Divergent Spirits EX, Tropico-Fantasia, Beach Sanshoku Geidontei, Resort Stars, Frozen-Over Gensokyo

Water Element Power UP: Two Girl Rock Band, Divergent Spirits EX, Tropico-Fantasia, My Favorites

Metal Element Power UP: Two Girl Rock Band, Disillusion, Myouren Temple Anniversary, Our Dream

Last Word

Despite all the strong Liquid Bullet Boosting Cards we have been getting now, they just keep on coming, case in point, Two Girl Rock Band and its effects that include a 50% Boost in Metal, a 40% Boost in Water and a 45% Boost in Liquid. It’s a massive boost for C3 Kogasa, but it’s expected as it was made for her to go swinging with her Last Word, as her bullets will either get a 95% boost in power, or slightly lower at 85%.

Other commendable options include Divergent Spirits EX that boosts Water and Liquid bullets. Tropico-Fantasia can also do this, but to a lesser extent. For a flat-out 50% Boost in Liquid Bullets, Resort Stars and Beach Sanshoku Geidontei do the trick very well, as the former adds even more Yang ATK for C3 Kogasa while the latter debuffs the Yang DEF of her foes. Finally, as her Last Word’s first bullet line is Metal, Disillusion is technically an option for its 50% Boost, but it’s less effective than the rest of the mentioned options.

Character Skill Level Up Recommendations

You can probably make a case for various orders, but for now, we can start things off with C3 Kogasa’s Skill 1, Miss Flamingo should go first as its cooldown goes from 5 turns to 3 turns. While the Spirit Power increase by 0.55 stays the same no matter what, it’s always nice to take advantage of it quicker, not to mention 4 stages of both Yang ATK and CRIT ATK is always helpful, even if for 1 turn. Next up can be Home Run Hitter as it provides an extra bit of Spirit Power to help reach 3P, although this could go first if that’s something you want to look out for. And last but not least is Kogasa the Cannon, also reducing its cooldown from 5 turns to 3 turns while adding Freeze anomalies inflicted both to herself and to her enemies.

Character Strengths

Incredible Damage Potential

C3 Kogasa has multiple ways of increasing her damage to really surprise her enemies. From a high base Yang ATK stat coming in at 1975, to her Metal and/or Water elements getting a 55% boost in power if they are effective against her target(s), and can also take advantage of Yang ATK II buffs on Skill 3 and her Last Word! To top it off, if she can land any Killers, C3 Kogasa will be scoring home runs with those CRITs!

A Large Umbrella’s Worth of Anomalies

Whether it’s using anomalies to benefit herself or inflicting and breaking them on her competition, C3 Kogasa is not to be underestimated with her handling of anomalies. C3 Kogasa inflicts herself with Freeze anomalies to boost offensive stats (mainly Yang ATK and CRIT ATK) through Skill 2, and Burn anomalies if inflicted on her also provide the same benefit. While she doesn’t inflict any Paralyze anomalies on herself, they can still boost her Agility, Accuracy and Evasion if possible. Enemies suffer Freeze anomalies from Skill 2 and Spell Card 1 and have them broken via Spell Card 1 and Last Word at 2P and 3P respectively, while Poison anomalies can be inflicted via Last Word, also being broken at 3P. On top of that, if you want to break enemies with elements, no worries there, as every single bullet line will either be Metal or Water, making it that bit easier to achieve those breaks.

Autonomous Tsukumogami

Not only does C3 Kogasa have the potential to deal devastating damage, but she can do that easily just with what her kit’s buffs provide, like with her Skill 1’s Yang ATK and CRIT ATK buffs, 5 turns worth of 4 stages of Accuracy for the team via Skill 3, Agility buffs on Spell Cards to enhance the impact of her Slice Scaling, 2.30 Spirit Power gained from Skills 1 and 3 (Skill 1 grants 0.55 Spirit Power to the team every 3 turns), and actually isn’t going to struggle too much with keeping her anomalies in check as Skill 2 both provides Freeze anomalies for herself while also adding a Barrier, so that if she needs to Graze to avoid damage, C3 Kogasa can survive that little bit longer. If she needs to escape a Bind and Spell Card 2 is available, that will do the trick for her as well.

Character Weaknesses

Surprisingly Limited Killer Range

The main thing holding back C3 Kogasa whenever she goes out swinging is her Killers not hitting as many enemies as some other Friends out there. While the ones she has (Human, Fairy, Soul, Aquatic, Swimsuit, Summer, Human Village, Hakurei Shrine, Myouren Temple) are not the worst as a collective, they certainly aren’t the best either, as the ones you’re probably getting the most out of will probably be Human, Fairy and Soul, as well as maybe Swimsuit and Summer on some VS Divergent Spirit stages with other C3 enemies. Ultimately, this is C3 Kogasa’s main obstacle stopping her from her grand slams critically decimating her foes.

Turn Durations on some Buffs are Hit and Miss

Despite her self-sustainability as mentioned above, while some turn durations on buffs like team Accuracy and selfish Agility are rather long, Skill 1 is a good example of her Yang ATK and CRIT ATK potentially being hard to maintain, especially on her own. This is because those buffs on Skill 1 last for 1 turn, and a lot of other buffs, like on Spell Card 2 and Last Word also last 1-2 turns which could be an issue when it comes to rather longer 1 wave stages.
