Character Analysis
Sagume Kishin was released on December 24th, 2021 in "Festival Prayer: Cure & Blessing of Fate." She was initially a Festival on release and later added to the general pool. For more up-to-date analysis, be sure to visit the Official Discord Server.
Sagume Kishin, the Goddess who Invites Unfortunate Slips of the Tongue, is one of the sages of the moon. Technically a divine spirit, she’s a composite of many different things - including the power of an amanojaku, which is to invert things. However, in Sagume’s case, her very words cause the world and reality itself to rebel against them - if she for example commented on light rain, it may suddenly cease to rain, or instead the rain may instead become a great monsoon. As such, she chooses her words very carefully.
For farming purposes, Sagume is a solid option who, thanks to the backloaded nature of her Last Word as well as incredible Spell Cards for farming setup purposes, can smash through both multi-target and single-target stages. This does come with a few caveats - she’ll often need an extra turn against single-target fights to get the oomph she needs. Thankfully, the dual-element nature of her Last Word doesn’t hurt that much in those situations, as she does 20% more damage to resistances (this doesn’t negate the penalty, just heavily diminishes it).
Solo Story Card Farms: 3-3-3
For harder fights, Sagume shines like the full moon. Her abundance of Yang DEF DOWN on top of granting herself Quick means not only will she shred the enemy’s defenses, she’ll typically go first (unless partnered with faster attackers with Quick). To break down her debuffs: from her skills, Silent Heron inflicts 3 levels of Yang DEF DOWN (1T) to all foes, and Fate Reversal inflicts 2 Levels of Evasion DOWN (2T) to all foes. This pairs nicely with her All targeting Last Word, Arrow of Evil-Slaying, which features 2 additional levels of Yang DEF DOWN (1T) - this combined 5 levels of Yang DEF DOWN will render any enemy force decimated in the face of a Yang onslaught - albeit, make sure it’s a blitz, since the debuffs only last for a single turn.
Sagume’s no slouch in the personal damage department either - on top of easily taking advantage of the Yang DEF DOWN she herself provides, she can also bolster her own Yang ATK with One-Winged White Heron providing 2 levels (3T, 60% chance for +1 level) of it. Additionally, her previously mentioned ability to partially ignore resistances means she’s a great pick for just about any fight that doesn’t outalright feature anti-Yang measures (such as excessive amounts of Yang ATK DOWN or Yang DEF UP).
However, if Sagume has a weak point, it would be her Break potential. It’s simply a little bit below what the par for good is these days - both Spell Cards feature 1/1/2/3 Moon Breaks for 0/1/2/3 Spirit Power. Her Last Word technically is fantastic at Breaking, with 3 Star and 3 Moon All targeting Breaks for 3 Spirit Power, but unless you’re truly desperate it’s much better served as a Yang DEF DOWN tool.
Story Card Recommendations
Spell Card
Sagume can either utilize additional Yang ATK UP for more damage, or Spirit Power UP for additional Breaks - in longer fights, make sure she has at least some Spirit Power UP, to make the most of her Last Word’s backloaded nature. In the Arena, she may occasionally get use out of Accuracy. For fillers, look to Yang ATK.
Last Word
Sagume’s best option is The Heat of My Fingertips, both buffing Sagume's whole Last Word due to being made up of Sharp Bulllets and buffing the Moon-element bullets parts of the attack. If you do not have this card, Yang ATK UP still serves her well with cards such as Ordinary Magician easily serving the role.
Character Skill Level Up Recommendations
Fate Reversal should be leveled up first if Sagume's personal output is important (such as for farming purposes), otherwise Silent Heron should be leveled up first for the highest possible team-wide boost. Sage's Trial isn't very useful, and can be saved for when you either have no targets left or she gets a Fantasy Rebirth.
Character Strengths
+ Great damage in short and long fights alike
+ Incredible support for Yang attackers
+ Good Accuracy support
Character Weaknesses
- Best Yang DEF DOWN debuff only last one turn
- Slightly lacking break potential
