Character Analysis
Flandre Scarlet was released on June 4th, 2021 in Waltz of Madness.
The Sister of the Scarlet Devil, Flandre Scarlet is a vampire with a dreadfully powerful ability and nearly no self control. It’s for these reasons that she often remains within the Scarlet Devil Mansion, rarely going out as she might wreak devastation without being careful. This lack of self control combined with her ability to destroy absolutely everything makes for a flawed, but potent B Tier Friend.
For farming, Flandre is completely unsuited. Whilst her Solo Last Word can do some serious damage, even at 1 Power, its base 50% Accuracy means she can’t hit 100% Accuracy, even with a Story Card that provides 3 Levels of Accuracy Up - the highest a Story Card can provide. This introduces enough variance that she will occasionally fail to clear a stage by herself, although this factor can be mitigated if you provide her with a teammate to support her.
For challenge quests, Flandre requires a lot of support to outperform other attackers, and her Solo targeting Last Word does make her usually outclassed by All attackers. Due to the unusually inaccurate nature of her Last Word, she cannot hit 100% Accuracy even with 10 Levels of Accuracy Up/Evasion Down - which is the cap of Accuracy buffs. She will require Paralyze Barriers to be applied on her target to be fully accurate, which means she will never be 100% accurate against a target under Full Break, as you cannot apply Paralyze Barriers if there are no Barriers to Paralyze. She also provides almost no Break support, - of her attacks, she’s only able to hit 1 Fire Break with her second Spell Card at 0 Power, and 1 more at 3 Power.
With that said, she can still put in some serious work, and especially shines in fights with 1 or 2 priority targets, being able to annihilate one with her Last Word and apply 3 Levels of Yin DEF Down on another. Her Last Word is so devastating in fact, that even making it fully accurate alone will make it deal over four times what the likes of Yuyuko can do - if you also provide her with Crit Accuracy and Damage support, she can deal millions of damage, shattering the visual damage cap. Usually hilariously overkill, but there are occasionally fights that justify that sheer amount of damage.
Overall, Flandre requires a lot of support, she’s a smidge situational even then, and she’s never going to be a good choice for solo farming, but for harder fights nobody can match her sheer damage output against a single target. She really can destroy absolutely anything.
Story Card Recommendations
(Card recommendations last updated on October 31, 2022)
Spell Card
Due to her extreme hunger for Accuracy, on top of needing 3 Power to fully utilize her Last Word, Flandre wants at least one Spirit Power UP card, and a card that provides 3 Levels of ACC UP for 2 turns. If you can provide her enough Accuracy otherwise that she doesn’t need it from her Story Cards, look for YIN ATK UP cards instead. Unlike many other characters, you’ll probably never use stat sticks on Flandre, as she always needs time to set up, but if you have a free slot look to Story Cards that boost YIN ATK.
Last Word
When it comes to Flandre’s Last Word, you have two options, depending on what kind of support you provide her. You can opt to using her best in slot card, which is Unknown Barrier Team if you are able to successfully provide her with enough accuracy support. If you do not have this card, you can use YIN ATK UP cards such as Overwhelming Firepower instead.
With the amount of Friends present in the game right now, getting enough Accuracy support from the team through their skills has been easier. However, if you have limited amounts of Friends that can provide this, a story card that gives 3 ACC UP, such as Valued Tools of the Trade at max limit break, will be your best bet.
Character Strengths
+ Devastatingly powerful Solo Last Word - at max potential.
+ Reasonably solid team support for Yin attackers with 3 Yin DEF Down against a single target.
Character Weaknesses
- Due to unusually low accuracy, she requires heavy accuracy support.
- Requires 3 Power for maximum potential.
- Unusually poor access to elements, having only 1 Fire Break on one Spell Card at 0 Power and 2 Fire Breaks at 3 Power.

Flandre Scarlet's Last Word (a Touhou LW original). She created this bullet hell attack based on Spell Cards like Ripples of 495 Years in order to enjoy her battles of bullets more. Marisa gave the attack its name by comparing Flandre to a black hole after reading astronomy books from the outside in the Scarlet Devil Mansion's library.*Pre- and Post- effects assume max level.
