Operator

Module Description

When she had to face a Sarkaz who stood two heads taller than her, wielding a supposedly state-of-the-art 'particle vibration cutting blade,' she removed a bottle-shaped earring from her ear. Inside it was her carefully blended green-orange blossom scent. It was thanks to this aroma that she didn't get motion sickness on her way here.
This time, she and her coworker were dealing with a gang of fugitives, and the man before her was the leader of the entire group. She wasn't skilled in close combat, but the job was urgent, and the commission generous. They had forced this weapon into her hands, expecting her to report various performance and parameter details after the operation, as if it were only natural for her to use this weapon to kill the Sarkaz before her.
He hung a stolen knife from his waist and disdainfully displayed the winding scars on his forearm. She did everything she could to appear unmoved, but her heartbeat quickened.
She saw him draw the knife and adopt an aggressive stance, but she suspected it could be a feint. Then, he swung the blade. She made the correct judgment at the last moment, assuming a stance, but she was still too slow. Her weapon had already been cleaved in half.
Before the next strike came, she proactively threw herself to the ground, crushing the earring in her hand.
She caught a strong whiff of the orange blossom scent and was certain that the Sarkaz smelled the same fragrance. So she looked up to see his expression change from ferocity to confusion, and finally, there was even a touch of softness that contrasted with his face. His lips marred by scarring twitched, hesitating. If there had been enough time, who knew what words they might have uttered.
Yet before they could, she leaped up, driving the half-blade into the Sarkaz's chest. His eyes widened and he fell backwards onto the ground.
She pulled the half-blade out of his chest, warm blood splattering her hand.
Suddenly, she felt like crying, as if she had just killed a close friend she had spent years with. But that wasn't true. She only smelled a fragrance.
She had already determined its effects upon concocting it: low concentration for alleviating motion sickness, high concentration to induce a false sense of relaxation and intimacy, a means to save herself in critical moments. The Sarkaz didn't know any of this; he believed there was some forgotten history between them, which is why he died by her blade. However, she knew it was just hormonal fluctuations induced by the drugs that got him killed. Not only did she know this, she also knew that in another five seconds, after the scent of orange blossoms had completely dissipated, the false emotions would vanish.
Five seconds passed quickly.
As expected, she was no longer sad; she just started to detest herself.
Because she remembered that the earrings were a gift she had given herself on the day she joined. Back then, she really just wanted a pair of aromatherapeutic earrings to relieve her motion sickness.
