Operator Overview

Name: Mudrock

-------------

"Sarkaz mercenary... Mudrock. Are you the Doctor? Rhodes Island saved me more than once, now, let me return the favour."

-------------

Sarkaz mercenary, former Reunion member, Mudrock.

When Logos saved everyone in Mudrock's squad, we saw an infected group who was trying to avoid Leithanien and Kazdel, and looking for a place to stay in the desert between them. And this group was being hunted by a Leithanien Spire noble. Due to certain inhumane Arts experimental purposes, Mudrock and her squad suffered unimaginable torture and harm. In order for the survivors to receive better treatment, a portion of the Sarkaz mercenaries, including Mudrock, decided to abandon their past and join Rhodes Island as collaborators.

It's hard for us to use those morals that stem from sheltered views on Mudrock's squad, and judge them on "whether they're like certain terrible Reunion members". Because from the numerous incidents that they encountered in Leithanien, we saw how Mudrock struggled to escape the swamp of conflict, and the helplessness as she was dragged back again and again. During the human resources temporary conference with Operator Folinic, Operator Suzuran, Operator Grani, and two other elite Operators, we decided to respect this warrior who would give her life for her companions, and will try to establish a trusting relationship with Mudrock's squad.

-------------

Mudrock is a 6★ Enmity Defender, which means she cannot be healed by allies.  Her Talent gives her a self-heal ability, and her Skills allow options for defense enhancement, offensive enhancement, and crowd-control.

Skills and Talents

Trait: Cannot be healed by allies

Talent 1: Periodically gain 1 Shield (can block 1 instance of damage, has stack limit). When a Shield is used, recover self HP.

Talent 2: Reduce damage taken from Sarkaz enemies

Skill 1: During skill activation, increase DEF

Skill 2: The next attack will recover a certain amount of HP and attack all nearby ground enemies, with a chance to Stun them.

Skill 3: After skill activation, enter a state of invulnerable + cannot take action for several seconds, and reduce nearby enemies’ Movement Speed during this state. After exiting this state, Stun all nearby enemies. For the remainder of the skill duration, increase ATK and DEF, reduce attack interval, and attack all blocked enemies.

First Impressions

Mudrock will be the second Enmity Defender we've seen in Arknights, with the first being the rare recruit-only Operator Vulcan,  Vulcan has incredibly high stats, but an incredibly high DP Cost to go along with it.  This DP cost plus her inability to be healed makes her a tricky Operator to master and use in a lot of situations, especially the roles often looked for in the Defender Class: blocking, damage mitigation, and survivability.  It will be interesting to see how Mudrock fares in these respects.

Like Vulcan, Mudrock's S1 is defensive focused, and her S2 is offensive.  Mudrock's S3 enhances both ATK and DEF.  Where Mudrock seems to differ the most from her Archetype predecessor is the addition of crowd-control to the kit.  Both S2 and S3 Stun enemies with an attack, and S3 provides Slowing as well.  Not to be underestimated, S3 provides an option of invulnerability, potentially very useful to delay death for an Operator that cannot be directly healed.

Clinical Analysis

Increase Trust to 25.

Imaging tests for this Operator showed blurry outlines of internal organs with visible dark spots. Unusually high concentrations of Originium particles were present in her circulatory system, indicating infection and confirming her as Infected at this stage.

[Cell-Originium Assimilation] 12%.

The Originium crystals were visible to the naked eye on many parts of Operator Mudrock's body.

[Blood Originium-Crystal Density] 0.31u/L.

As a former Sarkaz mercenary, Mudrock's infection is in bad shape and requires regular monitoring and reporting.

In order to support her giant suit of armor, Miss Mudrock used her Originium Arts to create padding between her and the armour, and regardless of whether or not her massive form could deter enemies, many people misjudged her size and strength. The Originium Arts modifications were "armed to the teeth", and the faceplate made her voice seem so thick and small that our Human Resources staff couldn't determine her gender until she took off her armor. Incidentally, aside from her old Sarkazian buddies, the startled expressions of the other Mudrock Squad members at the medical examinations were enough to show that even they didn't know the true nature of their captain.

"But then, the whole thing about mysterious Sarkazian women occasionally appearing on the team seemed to make sense, I actually thought that it was just a dream." --Leithanien Caster in the Mudrock Squad

In addition to the ability to simply manipulate earth and rocks, Mudrock's Originium Arts also allowed her to master a number of classical Arts techniques that were characteristic of Leithanien, as well as an ancient Arts that was tied to her bloodline, the Arts of the Sarkaz, which allowed her to force her consciousness to "hijack" her creature's body, allowing the unconscious rocks and boulders to "be controlled" by her body. The earth becomes an extension of her limbs. As an example, this difference is similar to the difference between holding a sword with both hands and having both hands become swords. In other words, in terms of combat efficiency, the difference isn't great. Apart from proving that Mudrock's Sarkaz bloodline was still pure, this particular Arts technique did not effectively enhance the combat abilities of her creations. However, this is only limited to the techniques that Mudrock has shown so far, considering Mudrock's future growth and the talent she showed when she learned the Leithanien Arts system on her own, perhaps this ancient method from her bloodline will become Mudrock's unexpected winning card.

It was also worth noting that Mudrock would occasionally refer to her own creations of her Originium Arts as "friends", from the largest statues to the smallest clay lumps. We can be sure that this kind of naming is not only due to Mudrock's personality or interest in them, but also because Mudrock's special Originium Arts make her feel emotionally attached to her creations, similar to how she would treat a handy tool that she has been using for more than ten years. Or maybe it was her long-time use of Arts that gave her a sense of empathy or the rocks and mud. Don't be shocked when you Operators see Mudrock alone in a room looking at a tiny clay doll with a gentle smile you haven't seen before . After all, she probably has a much closer relationship with mud than she does with most people.

The infected on Mudrock's team are in a very bad condition. Mudrock was "forced" to contact Rhodes Island in order to provide proper care for the infected within her ranks. Mudrock's own tendency to refuse attachment to other forces was obvious. However, after preliminary discussions with Rhodes Island, Mudrock was willing to work for Rhodes Island in exchange for medical care for the infected in the team. Considering Rhodes Island's past of cautious dealings with "Sarkazian mercenaries", the Human Resources staff intended to negotiate more details of the agreement with Mudrock, but in order not to delay the treatment of the infected, Mudrock decided to abandon her own position and join Rhodes Island as a collaborator.

We would have helped the infected even if she hadn't, but it's not often that we see that kind of persistence in a Sarkazian mercenary. We seem to understand why Mudrock is so popular with the native Leithanien infected.

Incidentally, while Mudrock was contemplating whether to become a Rhodes Island Operator, she happened to run into Miss Grani, a Vanguard who was in Rhodes Island on "vacation". After Miss Grani shared a story with Mudrock about a few particular bounty hunters, treasures and misunderstandings, Mudrock became overjoyed. In addition, Operators Folinic and Suzuran's persuasions ultimately contributed to Mudrock's choice to stay in Rhodes Island.

The Mudrock Squad's encounter in Leithanien was far from fortunate. Being at odds with the violent ideas of the Reunion Movement, Mudrock did not have much involvement in the havoc that the Reunion Movement was wreaking in Ursus. Instead, she had already led her like-minded Sarkaz colleagues to Leithanien, hoping to find a suitable place to hide in that highly developed, prosperous and corrupt country of Originium Arts technology. Knowing full well that the cities and towers of Leithanien would not easily accommodate the Sarkaz mercenaries who had participated in the civil war, Mudrock chose to wander between the relatively remote towns, during which the infected of Leithanien were constantly attracted to them, and Mudrock's rare benevolence for mercenaries won her a bit of a reputation. In retrospect, the name "Mudrock Squad" had become famous among the infected in some areas, but she always blushes when I talk about it, and it seems that she doesn't like to talk about that "glorious" history.

However, the desire for revenge brought about by the "Reunion Movement" was not kept within rational limits. Leithanien's attitude towards the infected was relatively gentle, and the infected's conflicts were naturally diverted to other areas out of ulterior motive. After a series of out-of-control riots that led to tragedy, Mudrock was disheartened and wanted to return to Kazdel to create a sanctuary for the Infected in her group.

However, this decision was still interrupted by an irresistible external force. When Elite Operator Logos encountered Mudrock's team in Kazdel, she was surrounded by less than a dozen Sarkazian warriors, and more than a handful of Leithanien's Infected who were on the verge of mental and physical collapse. It's not clear what exactly happened between the Mudrock Squad's departure from Leithanien and their arrival at Rhodes Island, or why Mudrock changed her mind at the last minute. However, there is no doubt that they were pursued by some forces in Leithanien and suffered heavy losses. After confirming the other party's clear intention of "killing all the infected", Logos chose to help her out.

Mudrock had once asked Operator Folinic, "What happened to Wolumonde?" .

According to the operation's archives, Wolumonde was a mobile town just north of Leithanien that had been involved in a Catastrophe that nearly destroyed it. The Rhodes Island Operator Atro was killed in this incident, and the team of agents that went to investigate the incident had also clashed with the Mudrock Squad. When asked "if Mudrock had committed any atrocities", Folinic hesitated for a moment, and then denied it.

As for the so-called "aftermath" regarding Mudrock, it refers to what happened after Mudrock dueled the Rhodes Island Operators (this word is more appropriate for situation, as it can be judged as Mudrock's deliberate intention to fight) and evacuated from Wolumonde. Sudden fires and riots gave the officers reason to petition the nobles to reinforce the gendarmes, and with the help of the gendarmes, the stricken town managed to establish a passage across the Great Rift Valley, with messengers and supply parties then arriving at Wolumonde. In conclusion, Wolumonde was badly wounded and its problems did not stop at the direct losses caused by riots and disagreements, "nearly one fifth of Wolumonde's population had betrayed Leithanien", it is a shadow buried deep in the hearts of the locals and a wake-up call to some of the local nobles whose consciences still existed---The problems they face are quite complex.

According to a letter from a courier who followed up on the investigation, the gendarmerie were able to confirm that Biederman, the culprit of the Wolumonde incident, had perished in the riot, and that the local Schultz had been taken into custody with a severe case of Oripathy and died an unknown death. The nobles then took back the autonomy of Wolumonde and decided to incorporate the intact areas of Wolumonde into the surrounding towns in the following spring.

According to the "experience" described by Mudrock, this incident in Wolumonde was just the tip of the iceberg of what the Mudrock Squad and other infected people had seen in Leithanien. One could imagine why the state of the Leithanien infected in the Mudrock Squad was so bad. I have to admit, staying in the giant cage of the Infected and giving up your freedom may be the only way to survive in Leithanien.

[Confidential Record]

On the first night of a local nobleman's visit to Wolumonde, an assassination attempt was made. The suspect attempted a stabbing, fled to the vicinity of the Winterwisp Mountains, then bit his tongue and killed himself. He was identified as the only son of the local Schultz, Thorwald, who was thought to have been killed in the fire. The gendarme found a letter on his person: "I've changed my mind, I'll die for you, but you have to do something for me. You know him, you're going to finish him off." Because of this letter and the Castrophe Messenger token that the suspect was carrying, it is possible to identify the suspect as one of Biederman's accomplices. The nobleman did not make things difficult for Severin Hawthorne, who was already gravely ill, but was clearly upset about the matter and left Wolumonde. Considering that only a few Operators were involved in this incident, this information is only available to several officers and the Doctor.

Voice Lines

Appointed as Assistant Hmm? Ah, see this chunk of dirt? ...... It whispers, it dances, it's my friend.
Talk 1 Miss Closure warned me that it's best not to walk around "armoured" in Rhodes Island ...... But showing my true face is a bit... I'm not used to it. Sorry. ......
Talk 2 A thank you note? Ah, was it those Sarkaz workers yesterday? The nature of my outfit and Arts is perfect for physical work, but despite how heavy the building materials and fuel were, they managed to ensure Rhodes Island's voyage continued smoothly using only pure strength and manpower ...... That's awesome.
Talk 3 That Elite Operator ...... I thought the strange Originium Arts I saw in Leithanien were already unusual, but when he casually cleared the fog I understood that as a Sarkaz he was young, but extremely old at the same time.
Talk after Promotion 1 I often think of the soldiers and companions who have left us, and occasionally I have the illusion that even now I am on the run ...... Doctor, have you ever been to Kazdel? It was the beginning of my journey and was what I mistakenly thought would be my end.
Talk after Promotion 2 Dr. Kal'tsit? ...... She's a little scary, but her presence is strangely reassuring as well ...... By the way, Rhodes Island seems to have partnered with other mercernary groups, can you tell me more about them, Doctor? I'm better off not knowing? Ah ...... Then I can probably guess who they are.
Talk after Trust Increase 1 I became a member of the Rhode Island Operators so that those Infected could heal and live, so that those soldiers ...... die well. But ...... It was only when I came to Rhodes Island that it first became clear to me what I was really fighting for.
Talk after Trust Increase 2 I was talking to a mud doll by myself ......? Um, was I seen by someone? That was just a simplified ritual ...... Huh? Actually, everyone knows? Really? Then I'll pay attention next time, maybe I'll do it in the middle of the night when no one is around ...... Huh, not even then?
Talk after Trust Increase 3 From Kazdel to Leithanien, so much discrimination is etched onto those who suffer, and when they have to take up arms, they find that they actually have nothing. What did you think of me, Doctor? Trust? Trust ...... Will it keep me alive?
Idle ...... The one napping here is the Doctor. Remember him, he'll be with us for a long, long time.
Onboard Sarkaz Mercenary, Mudrock ...... You must be the Doctor, Rhodes Island has saved me more than once, now, please let me return the favor.
Watching Battle Record I've already learned Rhodes Island’s combat style, but this is still a good reference ......
Promotion 1 I used to be called part of the Renuion Movement, I was called the leader of the Mudrock Squad, and now I'm ...... I'm being commended by a past opponent...is this what you call "bad luck"?
Promotion 2 Huh? This feels new? This is because I would never take off my helmet in a fight ...... I have many reasons, but things are different now, um, should I keep it this way? If that is your request......
Added to Squad Now that I am just a Rhode Island Operator, I will obey your command.
Appointed as Squad Leader Captain ...... I don't really like being a leader, but ...... I guess I'm used to it too.
Depart Time to go to war.
