Character Analysis
B3 Youmu Konpaku was released on December 26th, 2021 in Ultra Festival: Lunar War Gardener.
Hailing from a desperate world where _____ was sealed away, Youmu Konpaku, the Lunar War Gardener, fights a desperate fight for me and you. She’s got perhaps the worst of it of the various Lunar War combatants - her phantom half had to be virtualized just to keep it around (...does that make her a half digital ghost?) , and the blades of her heritage lost all of their power. Still, she’s hardly about to let that keep her down - and since she’s still an incredibly talented swordsman due to her training, this fighter of the Lunar War will deliver decisive, cinematic strikes as an SS-Tier Friend.
For farming, this samurai is a cut above. Thanks to her utterly tremendous damage output that can be bolstered even further if need be with a two turn setup, there are few if any one-wave event stages she cannot farm (bar those absurd ones that nobody can). Unfortunately her ability to farm Story Cards by herself in the main story is somewhat lacking, currently being only able to farm Chapter 3 Act 1’s Story Card alone and thus keeping her from truly being a top tier farmer.
Solo Stage Farms: 3-3-3, Future Story Card Stage
For harder fights, Youmu’s job is fairly simple - slice down anyone in her way with her legally distinct not!lightsabers. Her All targeting Last Word, Spirit Power Dual Wave Cut, has dual secondary scaling - 50%/50%/0%/50%/0%/50% Slice and 90%/100%/100%/150%/150%/150% Hard, as befitting a swordsman with two swords. The plethora of Yang DEF and Yang ATK in her kit further compliments this, alongside a large portion of it being teamwide - including even teamwide accuracy support. Additionally, she can force her way through enemy barriers with a plethora of Breaks - most notably P0 access to Water with Phantom Half and Sun with Bizarreness of Six Realms. Otherwise, Sword Skill: Cherry Blossom Flashing features 1/2/2/3 All-targeting Water Breaks for 0/1/2/3 Spirit Power (and one Sun break, though just one will rarely ever be useful), and Reincarnation Sword: Slash of Circular Vicissitude (try saying that six times fast) features 3 Sun and 2 Water Solo targeting Breaks in total at 3 Spirit Power - making it a somewhat flexible option, though typically it’ll be best used for the 3 Sun breaks it has at 2 Spirit Power. Lastly on the rare few fights it doesn’t cut down immediately, Spirit Power Dual Wave Cut inflicts a cool 4 Sun and 2 Water All targeting Breaks for 3 Spirit Power in total.
In addition to this, Youmu’s Spell Cards pack incredible damage, thanks to the abundance of Hard and to a lesser extent Slice on them, as well as the built-in evasion down from Paralyze. Additionally, thanks to her unusually good passive, Ghost Assist, she gains .25 Spirit Power per turn, for free. Finally, she has some Paralyze infliction ability on her Spell Cards, but they’re not really in high enough values to take advantage of in a meaningful way for Breaks between low amounts of infliction and low duration. They sure do help her Spell Card output though, and serve as a form of Accuracy support in extended fights.
All in all, this stylish samurai won’t let you down, so long as you can afford the ridiculous cost of upgrading her flashlight swords.
Gardener's secondary scalings are as follows;
Phantom Half:
Hard: 30%/30%/40%/40%/40%/0%
Bizarreness of Six Realms:
Hard: 30%/30%/40%/40%/40%/0%
Sword Skill: Cherry Blossom Flashing:
Hard: 40%/50%/50%/0%/60%/60%
Slice: 0%/0%/0%/0%/40%/40%
Reincarnation Sword: Slash of Circular Vicissitude:
Hard: 40%/50%/50%/0%/60%/60%
Slice: 0%/0%/0%/0%/40%/40%
Spirit Power Dual Wave Cut:
Hard: 90%/100%/100%/150%/150%/150%
Slice: 50%/50%/0%/50%/0%/50%
Story Card Recommendations
(Card recommendations last updated on May 13, 2023)
Spell Card
Spirit Power UP will give B3 Youmu both damage and extra Breaks due to the semi-mixed nature of her Spell Cards, so cards like The Witch of Scarlet Dreams are her best option in many scenarios. Yang ATK UP cards like Ordinary Magician is also very helpful too, for being able to push the Yang ATK stat to its max. She does not need Accuracy, due to the Paralyze her Spell Cards inflict, but even then, Mysterious Sword Master not only provides a 50% increase in Slash power, but it also provides 2 stages of Accuracy, making this the ultimate powerhouse card for Spell Cards too.
Last Word
Slash Damage UP tends to be Youmu’s sweet spot, and nothing does it better than Mysterious Sword Master and The Moon and Izayoi. Failing that, you can look to Sun Damage UP in the form of cards such as Mega Flare (featuring a little Agility UP).
Character Skill Level Up Recommendations
play:maniac is by far the priority to raise first to at least level 3, as the self Spirit Power UP it provides at that extremely easy to reach level lets Youmu reach the 2 Spirit Power on turn 1 threshold and thus abuse her Last Word’s 1-2-2 layout. After that, level up her skills to personal taste: play:maniac provides teamwide Agility support and the greatest amount of Spirit Power to Youmu, play:melancholic provides teamwide Accuracy support, play:illusional provides teamwide Yang DEF, and play:myon blares a recording of her greatest Myon moments.
Okay, that last one isn’t a skill, but she sure does say Myon a bunch across all her lives.
Character Strengths
+Utterly incredible damage in both short and hard fights, both on her Last Word and Spell Cards
+Solid teamwide buffs, including Yang DEF, Yang ATK, Agility, Accuracy support
+Great Breaking ability, including P0 Water and Sun on basic shots
+Minor amounts of Paralyze on her Spell Cards, though it mostly only serves as Accuracy support for her own Spell Cards and those of her teammates.
Character Weaknesses
-Bad Killer bullet types, making CRIT support necessary for maximum damage
