Taikyo (a Touhou LW original) refers to the sky as well as the great void where yin and yang originate. This is an apt temperament for Youmu, who straddles the line between human and phantom. Youmu is endowed with Metal Phase, the element of swords, and Star Essence, because she is impressionable.

The cold and silent Metal Phase resists Earth Phase, because earth bears metal, but it is weak to Fire Phase, because fire refines metal.

The diverse and uncooperative Star Essence resists the cooperative and indecisive Moon Essence, but it is weak to the charming and arrogant Sun Essence.

The Spread Shot of Youmu Konpaku from the world shrouded in scarlet mist. She unleashes waves of energy from her sword. Phosphorous is an element that can supposedly be extracted from corpses. It's combustible, highly reactive, and can be used to make various medicinal products. There's also a theory that phosphorus is a type of incredibly pure and dense temperament, leading some people to think that phantoms are made out of it. Youmu doesn't know anything about that, but she does know that expelling phosphorus while swinging her sword produces a pretty explosive attack.

That would make sense because, like her grandfather Youki Konpaku before her, she is both Hakugyokurou's fencing instructor and gardener. Her gardening work provides plenty of opportunities to practice her sword skills. The wise Yuyuko must have thought of this when she made Youmu her gardener.

The Last Word of Youmu Konpaku from the world shrouded in scarlet mist (a Touhou LW original). Feeling the need for a new weapon to use in battle, Youmu prepared this attack. But she never expected to use it so soon. Yuyuko told Youmu about Gensokyo and the mansion releasing the scarlet mist... in the form of a scary story. Contrary to Yuyuko's intentions, the ever-impressionable Youmu became terrified of Gensokyo and concluded that she must exterminate all the spooks and monsters there with her blade, Hakurouken. Yuyuko couldn't decide whether this was an act of bravery or cowardice, but there was someone else who appreciated Youmu's ardor... the Yama in Hell. She also wished to know what was happening in Gensokyo. However, she would prefer it if Youmu showed more restraint with Hakurouken.

The ability of Youmu Konpaku from the world shrouded in scarlet mist (a Touhou LW original). It is essentially the same as our version of Youmu's ability. The reliable records hardly mention this world's Youmu, so most of the following information is hearsay and could very well be false. However, that is all the more reason why she should be investigated and studied. Even made-up stories have real meaning behind them.

Yuyuko Saigyouji deftly acted in the shadows and in the open, trying to deal with the never-ending Scarlet Mist Incident affecting Gensokyo. Her efforts were on par with her best friend, Yukari Yakumo. Yuyuko is incredibly intelligent and perceptive, and to top it off, she is almost immune to stress thanks to her independent and headstrong attitude. It could be said that if anyone could stand up to Yukari Yakumo, it would be her. Youmu Konpaku is a half-human, half-phantom swordswoman who serves Yuyuko. Unfortunately, she isn't exactly the sharpest tool in the shed.

The mist gradually altered the landscape of the Netherworld over the course of a year, eventually affecting the phantoms there... Yuyuko had to make a decision of whether they would accept these changes or fight against them. Fearing for Youmu's safety, Yuyuko purposefully filled her head with scary stories. She made Youmu believe that the land of the living was a scary and dangerous place full of spooks, monsters, and mist. Yuyuko was sure this would prevent Youmu from venturing down to Gensokyo on her own, which was truly a dangerous place. However, contrary to Yuyuko's expectations, the trembling and terrified Youmu drew Hakurouken and suggested that they exterminate the spooks. Hakurouken is a sword that has the power to slice through doubts and enlighten those it cuts, forcefully removing them from the cycle of reincarnation. It sounds like it would be extremely effective at slaying undead fate-manipulating monsters, but Yuyuko doubted whether the vampire was truly the mastermind behind all this...

While Yuyuko was still trying to decide what to do, she was visited by the god of chickens, who regularly traveled between Hell and Gensokyo. She came bearing orders from the Yama. The Yama wanted to enlist Yuyuko's help to investigate what was happening in Gensokyo because she was worried about the mist that was starting to seep into Hell. The mist would cause untold harm if it ever covered Hell in earnest due to the peculiar magic it was imbued with. This magic could affect the souls of the dead, the oni who manage Hell, and even the Yama herself... According to the Yama's observations, the mist seemed to be a condensed mass of some kind of temperament, similar to phantoms, clearly indicating that someone designed it this way on purpose. This worried the Yama and Yuyuko even more... but Youmu was still as clueless as ever.

Following the Ghost Lead of her mistress, a Half-Human Half-Phantom in a yellow raincoat travels to a haunted house, or as we know it, the Scarlet Devil Mansion. But why does she wish to make it there? Is she trying to resolve the Scarlet Mist Incident? Is she looking at the perfect opportunity to do her part in a certain Spring Snow Incident alongside her ghostly mistress? Whatever reason it may be, this budding swordswoman will overcome her fears of traveling outside of her Hakugyokyrou realm!

A6 Youmu Konpaku is a Defense-Class Friend with decent defensive support, but with a notable mix of Fire, Water and Metal bullets, Freeze anomaly inflictions on herself and even strong damage potential.

Has a few bullet line debuffs scattered. Mainly includes Yin DEF and Yang DEF debuffs, moreso the latter.
Hard Scaling benefits A6 Youmu in terms of damage, such as 5 lines of 100% Scaling of it in her Last Word.

As a Barrier Breaker/Utility

The 3 elements you see here are Water, Fire and Metal, with Water appearing everywhere outside of Last Word, Fire appearing in both Spell Cards and Last Word, and Metal in both Shots and Last Word.
Can benefit from Freeze and/or Poison anomalies that provide buffs in Yang DEF, Yin DEF, CRIT DEF and CRIT Evasion. Inflicts Freeze on herself with Skill 3 and Spell Card 1 bullet lines.
Inflicts 2-3 layers of Poison on all enemies with Spell Card 1, and her ways of breaking Poison are via Spell Card 1 and Last Word, both 3P. Burn breaks are also possible via Last Word at 3P.

The main buffs you’ll want to take into account with A6 Youmu will be CRIT ATK and Accuracy, as well as some Spirit Power of course. Maybe one will try for defensive cards, but the above is recommended. Assuming the offensive buffs in question are covered, you can look at Slash-Boosting Cards for Spell Card 1 and Light-Boosting Cards for Spell Card 2. Both of those Spell Cards have Fire and Water if you also want to take advantage of that too.

A6 Youmu getting some Youmu-Themed cards that would serve as her best picks is so fitting, as Disillusion is head and shoulders above the rest thanks to its boost in both Metal and Slash. While this leaves the Fire bullet lines with a 45% boost, it’s the Metal ones on lines 1, 3 and 5 with a 95% boost thanks to this card. If for whatever reason Accuracy is an issue though, Mysterious Sword Master should help with any issues in that, while also providing that trusty 50% boost in Slash. Speaking of 50% Slash, The Moon and Izayoi is also an option too.

Outside of the top 3 above, you could find yourself in situations where maybe you need to do something a little different. In the case of Running Late (another Youmu card), that immediate Yang DEF debuff alongside a tiny Slash bullet boost might just help in niche cases. Meanwhile, Two Girl Rock Band is another 50% Metal Boost card but aside from strong Yang ATK stats on it, that’s about it for it. And finally, Myouren Temple Anniversary is similar with its also high Yang ATK stats and boost in Metal, although the Metal boost isn’t as high due to the card also having an effect that reduces an enemy’s Yang DEF.

With all these options, you could definitely have fun with them, but for raw damage, Disillusion is absolutely the one to go for here, and if that isn’t available, Mysterious Sword Master is your next best bet.

Character Skill Level Up Recommendations

A6 Youmu’s most handy Skill would be the first one, Hakrouken in Hand. It is important for Spirit Power especially, but also benefits Yang ATK for herself as well as the team’s Yang DEF. Next up is completely optional, but if you want to take advantage of her Accuracy buffs via Grazing the best you can, you could go with the second Skill, Unbalanced Yin-Yang next. And finally, we have Chilly Half-Phantom which could be mainly used for selfish Freeze anomaly buffs, contributing to defensive buffs that may benefit her damage output.

Barriers to Come Around

A6 Youmu can keep gaining Barriers for herself with Skill 2 as well as for her team with Spell Card 1 Post-ATK, both restoring 2 at a time. On top of that, with some of the Focus UP that A6 Youmu has access to, she could use this to her advantage when it comes to taking all the important hits, playing into her role as a Defense-Class Friend. If she has to take some damage, she even has ways of healing up as well, like Absorb in some bullet lines for example.

Offense is the Best Defense

Despite her role, A6 Youmu does have the potential to hit hard when it comes to attacking and dealing damage. From strong Killers to some offensive buffs via Yang ATK to solid Hard Scaling, the potential is very much there, and with the important buffs done to maximize this, the damage will be huge.

Despite some of the benefits you can cherry pick when it comes to tanking with A6 Youmu, she is just way too awkward with it. Firstly, for a Defense-Class Friend, her base Yang DEF and base Yin DEF are relatively low at 1275. Secondly, while she has decent damage potential, this may have come at the cost of her defensive capabilities. And thirdly, the defensive buffs she brings are a little lackluster and in some cases selfish, as while her Barrier gain on Skill 2 is handy, it unfortunately isn’t being shared out with the team. When it comes to A6 Youmu’s role, there is a bit of an identity crisis…

Critical Gap in Offensive Buffs

Since A6 Youmu surprisingly likes her offense, we may as well point out her lack of CRIT ATK in her kit, which would help a ton in her damage potential. Despite her CRIT DEF reduction on a Spell Card, a flaw is a flaw, and in addition, if for whatever reason Grazing isn’t an option, it might be a little awkward to solidify those Accuracy buffs for the team too.
