Character Analysis
Seija Kijin was released on April 21st, 2022 in "Festival Prayer: Reverse Rebel Heroes." She was initially a Festival on release and later added to the general pool. For more up-to-date analysis, be sure to visit the Official Discord Server.
Seija Kijin, like Sagume Kishin, is an amanojaku: a species of youkai who have the ability to "reverse" phenomena in one way or another. But unlike Sagume's ability to reverse complex concepts like situations and outcomes, Seija's ability to "turn over anything" literally flips stuff over! She uses this during battle to flip herself and her opponents in disorienting directions. Seija is often very contrarian, and will go against the natural flow of things just to be different and cause trouble. And although Seija is generally disliked by the other residents of Gensokyo for her mischievous tendencies, she can actually be personable and enjoys talking.
Seija can farm one story card stage, as well as event farm rather well. She has several ways to increase her damage output, even increasing her Spirit Power by 1.00 with her second skill, Replica Replica Mallet. Unfortunately, with her Last Word, Inverse Matrix, being backloaded (1-1-3 spread), she will still need another turn to prepare her full damage output if she is by herself. At the very least, she can use the rest of her skills to apply Blind anomalies on herself. Instead of getting blinded, she gets 1 extra level of Yin, Yang, and CRIT ATK UP as well as CRIT Accuracy UP. With a self-Yin ATK buff by 3 levels (2T) from her first spell, Deceit Sign: Reverse Needle, Seija is a very offensive Friend who is a decent farmer in general.
Outside of damage, Seija can apply some debuffs with very slight utility on the side. Her main team utility comes from her third skill, Weary Substitute Jizo. Providing 2 levels of Yin DEF UP (3T) to the whole party helps her Hard scaling slightly, however be wary of the 2 Blind anomalies it applies to the entire party. While Seija herself does not get the Accuracy debuff and instead gets stronger, the rest of the team will not fare the same fate. It might be strange to see Weary Substitute Jizo apply 1 level of Yang DEF DOWN (2T) to all foes when her main bullet type is Yin, but Seija is a special case. Thanks to being able to turn over anything (and all of her bullets being Specular), her Yin ATK stat will be calculated against the opponent’s Yang DEF. This makes Seija primarily synergize with Yang DEF debuffers instead of Yin DEF ones.
As for her breaking potential, her elements are not the most impressive. While she does have a 0P Moon break on her Spread shot, Bloodthirsty Yin-Yang Orb, the Moon access on her spells is rather limited, with a very small extra amount of Fire. Inverse Matrix is the main exception, having 4 Moon breaks and 2 Fire breaks if you hit the attack at 3P. To make up for limited elements, Seija comes with two different Blind anomaly breaks: one on Deceit Sign: Reverse Needle at 3P and one on Bloodthirsty Yin-Yang Orb at 2P and 3P as well. This works well with both the 2 layers of Blind from her second spell, Reverse Bow: Dream Bow of Heaven and Earth, as well as any other Blind anomaly inflictors.
The secondary effects and Hard scaling for Seija’s attacks are as follows:
Bloodthirsty Yin-Yang Orb:
Hard: 30%/30%/0%/0%/0%/0%
Gap Folding Umbrella:
Self Yin ATK UP: 40%/0%/60%/0%0%0%
Deceit Sign: Reverse Needle:
Hard: 40%/50%/0%/0%/0%/0%
Reverse Bow: Dream Bow of Heaven and Earth:
Hard: 60%/70%/80%/0%/80%/0%
Inverse Matrix:
Target Yang DEF DOWN: 0%/100%/0%/0%/0%/0%
Hard: 60%/0%/0%/70%/80%/80%
Story Card Recommendations
(Card recommendations last updated on April 30, 2023)
Spell Card
As always, Spirit Power restoration from sources such as Witch of Scarlet Dreams is always highly desired, this time mainly to reach her Flash bullets quicker for immediate Blind anomaly breaks. Midnight Tea is a rather good substitute for additional Yin ATK stat sticks along with Spirit Power restoration. Finally, Seija lacks any accuracy support of her own and can really go for some help there. Shichi-Go-San School Visit?! is the perfect choice for this, as it gives 2 levels of Accuracy UP (3T), meaning the buff lasts for pretty long. Do note that this is an event card for the Shichi-Go-San event, but any other Accuracy card here still works well.
Last Word
The optimal Sharp Bullet power UP card, The Heat of My Fingertips, also has a great buff to Moon-element bullets, which make up a majority of Seija's Last Word. Still, if you do not have this card, it is otherwise better to further improve Seija’s Accuracy so her Last Word hits as much as it can. Valued Tools of the Trade is very valuable for this, increasing Accuracy by a whopping 3 levels (2T).
Character Skill Level Up Recommendations
Seija’s third skill, Weary Substitute Jizo, is the skill that definitely gives Seija the most benefits to herself, giving herself (and her team) 2 levels of Yin DEF (3T) for Hard scaling, the opponents 1 level of Yang DEF DOWN (2T) for Specular Yin attacks, and Blind anomalies for self-buffs, though remember this can hurt the rest of your team due to being party-wide. Her second skill, Replica Replica Mallet, can be prioritized next, mainly just to increase the Spirit Power restoration from 0.50 to 1.00 to help unleash stronger attacks, as the Yin DEF debuff does not get stronger. Finally, her first skill, Drain Decoy Doll, can be leveled last, although it does still help Seija due to applying an additional Blind anomaly for 2 levels of offensive buffs. The Evasion buff, however, is rather inconsequential.
Character Strengths
+ 0P Moon break on Spread
+ Last Word can hit hard after setting up from self-Blind buffs
+ Flash breaks on Spread and first spell; can be used for synergy
+ Specular bullets makes her Yin attacks target Yang DEF (more battle-dependent than a strength)
Character Weaknesses
- Underwhelming Moon and Fire breaks overall
- Very low team synergy
- Blind anomalies on team forces team to waste a barrier
- Requires outside Accuracy support
