Patchouli Knowledge barely attempts to train her body or move at all, for that matter. Instead, she spends her time researching strong magic. Meiling and Patchouli have totally opposite values, but the way they pursue their goals is somewhat similar.

Character Spell Cards
For Meiling and Remilia, manga is a common interest. The two have strengthened their friendship in a way you might expect to find in a romance or coming-of-age manga―i.e., by lending each other different volumes and sharing their thoughts on what they've read. With both of them being so passionate, it wouldn't be strange for there to be a small manga section in the mansion's library. It's likely that even Patchouli reads manga despite making fun of Meiling and Remilia for doing so.

It's not hard to imagine Meiling and Flandre giggling and having a great time while playing together. However, during a certain ordeal involving a vengeful spirit, Flandre squeezed Meiling so hard that everything inside her was about to burst out.

''Let's talk this through, Meiling. In order to travel between worlds, you need to manipulate time and space. But all you can do is manipulate qi, so how could you possibly travel between worlds? The answer lies in the person who brings me and you together―Lady Remilia. Lady Remilia's ability to manipulate fate, to be exact.
Altering the movement of stars using the torrent of qi flowing through them is equivalent to interfering with the fate they display. That allows you to indirectly control the forking of possibilities. That's right, Meiling. It's exactly the same as how we first met as a result of the fate Lady Remilia laid out for us.''

Character Analysis
Hong Meiling (Be the change) was released on March 25th 2024 on Relic Prayer “Hidden Star, Waking Dragon”. For more up-to-date analysis, be sure to visit the Official Discord Server.
The Gatekeeper of the Scarlet Devil Mansion has experienced her fair share of loss due to this incident, such as a certain Perfect and Elegant Maid. However, she is wide awake with her eyes peeled now (quite the change to before) and has now channeled her inner dragon using her qi and mastery of martial arts. Can this iteration of Hong Meiling change the course of her fate that the Lost Word Incident is trying to force onto her by channeling all that dragon energy coursing through her veins, or will she sleep trying? One can dream big!
L80 Hong Meiling is a Technical-Class Friend looking to change things up with her team support (including Yang ATK II and Resisted Damage boost), Burn Anomaly breaking and somewhat of a mixed approach to her kit.
As an Attacker / Supporter / Debuffer
- Yang ATK and Agility stats at 1700 and 1500 respectively.
- L80 Meiling’s bullet line damage will increase by 30% when hitting effective elements. Additionally, Skill 3 grants the team a 30% boost in bullet line power for any resisted bullets.
- Grants 2.00 Spirit Power for herself with Skill 1, as well as 1.00 Spirit Power for the team. Any additional Paralyze anomalies inflicted onto her will also grant L80 Meiling 0.20 Spirit Power per anomaly.
- Team Yang ATK buffs from Skill 1, Spell Card 2 and Last Word Pre-ATKs.
- Yang ATK II buff for the team via Skill 3, lasting 4 Turns.
- Team CRIT ATK buffs via Skill 2 and Last Word Pre-ATK. Also gains a selfish CRIT ATK buff via Spell Card 1’s Pre-ATK.
- Yang DEF buffs from Skill 1 and some bullet lines in Both Shots.
- Agility buffs for the team with Skill 3, in addition to selfish buffs via Spell Card 1 Pre-ATK and some various bullet lines.
- CRIT DEF debuff on Spell Card 2’s Pre-ATK.
- Yang DEF debuffs on some bullet lines (Focus Shot, Spell Card 2).
- Accuracy buffs for the team when Grazing and through Last Word Pre-ATK.
- CRIT Accuracy buff for the team when Boosting, and has various CRIT Accuracy buffs for herself on bullet lines.
- Above Yang DEF/Agility buffs go toward L80 Meiling’s Hard/Slice Scaling, going up to 80/95% on her Last Word.
- Killers include Soul, God, Tengu, Flower, Martial Artist, Hermit, Celestial, Fairy, Magician, Shrine Maiden, Magician, Dragon Kin, Parallel Presence and Mastermind (LW).
As a Utility / Breaker
- Comes with various elements. From Star’s slight appearance, to Fire’s Spell Card dominance, to Moon, Metal, Wood, Water and Earth scattered around.
- Takes advantage of Paralyze anomalies (0.20 Spirit Power per layer inflicted) as well as Burn/Freeze anomalies (+1 Yang ATK, Yin ATK, CRIT ATK, CRIT Accuracy per layer inflicted). Burn anomalies are inflicted to herself via Skill 2, and a Last Word bullet line.
- Inflicts and breaks Burn anomalies on enemies. Achieved via Skill 2 (3 layers), Spell Card 2 (2 layers) and Last Word (2 layers) inflicted on all enemies, these anomalies can also be broken via Solo Focus Shot (1P), All Spell Card 2 (2P) and All Last Word (3P).
- Grants the team 2 Barriers via Spell Card 1’s Post-ATK.
- 100% chance to Stun an enemy via Solo Focus Shot (3P).
Story Card Recommendations
(Card recommendations last updated on March 24, 2024)
Spell Card
L80 Meiling has a fair balance of buffs for both herself and the team, but more of those effects through Story Cards never hurt. Whether it’s team Accuracy boosting cards like Ability Cards?, Spirit Power buffs like The Witch of Scarlet Dreams (self) or Myouren Temple Anniversary / Divine Spirit Tajikarao (team), Yang ATK buffs for the team like Nameless Adventurers or Satellite TORIFUNE, CRIT ATK buffs like Worlds in Hand / Divine Spirit Tajikarao and Yang DEF buffs for herself/the team with cards like Figure of Hourai (self) or Housekeeper Training?! (team)!
As for Story Cards for her Spell Cards, the first one will benefit from cards like The Heat of my Fingertips, I’m Alright! and Be the change (All Sharp) and Silver Gale (Fire). As for her Spell Card 2, you can look to Story Cards like NAЯAKA (Fire/Energy) and Choose an Animal Spirit (Energy/Body).
For more similar Story Card options to the above, you can go over to the Story Card Info Page.
Last Word
Incident Shrine
Beach Sanshoku Geidontei
I'm Alright!
Secret Sealing Club Girls
Night-Splitting Light
Hand in Hand With a Miracle
Stand-In Shrine Maiden
Choose an Animal Spirit
In quite the change of pace, L80 Meiling’s best Story Card is in fact not the Be the change Story Card! While it gives all her bullets a 50% increase whether they are Star or Sharp, her first two Last Word Lines are actually Body, and because they are also Star, these two lines would end up being great for Incident Shrine, being the best bet when an enemy is fully broken.
As an alternative, Beach Sanshoku Geidontei’s Yang DEF debuff alongside its 50% Body boost will be very helpful, especially when up against enemies that aren’t fully broken, and an alternative to the aforementioned L80 Meiling Story Card would be I’m Alright!, also having a 50% boost in both Star and Sharp bullets.
As for any final options that boost the most significant first 2 bullet lines, other usable Story Cards that boost Star or Body by 50% are: Secret Sealing Club Girls, Night-Splitting Light, Hand in Hand With a Miracle, Stand-In Shrine Maiden and Choose an Animal Spirit.
Character Skill Level Up Recommendations
The more Spirit Power, the merrier. That’s why Skill number one, which is Unidentified Youkai, can go first (which also adds more team Yang ATK and Solo Yang DEF). Next up will be the one in the middle, Qi Manipulator. This one increases the CRIT ATK for the team alongside additional layers of Burn for herself as well as for her enemies. And last up, but certainly not least is the last Skill, which is Mansion Guard. While the Yang ATK II buff stays the same, the damage increase in resisted elements as well as Agility buffs do go up.
Character Strengths
Contagious Dragon Energy of Resistance
It’s handy for L80 Meiling to have not one, but two kinds of special ways to support the team from Skill 3, inflicting a long-lasting Yang ATK II buff for the team (which lasts 4 turns) and a 30% damage increase in resisted damage, helping allies when going all out in their attacks and happen to have resisted bullets, and the Yang ATK II buff can be very flexible too with its longer turn duration, given various situations that may arise.
Gates of Support Opening Up
L80 Meiling is also able to grant all kinds of useful traditional support, including Yang ATK, CRIT ATK, Agility, Spirit Power, Accuracy, CRIT Accuracy and Barriers. On top of the above support, this handful of buffs can make this Gatekeeper rather compatible with all kinds of Friends, especially the Yang-Based ones.
Be the Anomaly
Being able to break 5 Burn anomalies on all her enemies off the jump is a solid feat. L80 Meiling achieves this via a mix of Skill 3 and either her Spell Card 2 or Last Word. She can also benefit from anomaly buffs via Burn or Freeze anomalies in the form of offensive buffs for herself, and should anyone inflict Paralyze anomalies onto her, she will gain more Spirit Power.
Character Weaknesses
Rainbow Sign of Many Elements
Despite having a Story Card that boosts Star elemental bullets by 50%, only 4 Star bullet lines appear in L80 Meiling’s entire kit (two in her Spell Card 2, two in her Last Word). Meanwhile, she does have a solid amount of Fire in both her Spell Cards (4 in both), but there are all kinds of elements scattered around her kit resulting in quite the inconsistency. Having to juggle Metal, Water, Wood, Moon and Earth in her kit as well as the rest is quite the ordeal, making elemental breaking more difficult.
Gated by Weak Killing Power
From a very average range of Killers to work with, and with the Parallel Presence/Mastermind (LW) Killers being less frequent here, L80 Meiling will really struggle when it comes to landing those guaranteed CRITs. Among the best ones to work with here are Soul and God, but even with any Killers landing, L80 Meiling doesn’t have the best damage output compared to her competition, and a big part of this at the moment comes down to her Story Card (boosts Star and Sharp) not quite giving that full boost to her Last Word due to its very awkward bullet lines in Body and Sharp. But will therebe a change one day in the form of a Story Card that boosts Star, Body and Sharp at the same time?
