Overview

...oh boy. Pheromosa almost had to be a regional raid, as the majority of the world can easily farm Pheromosa down with relative ease. This is not a hard solo given the right Pokemon, mainly because it has the unfortunate misfortune of having low defense and a double weakness to the single strongest Pokemon in the game to date. Seriously; even all of our "good" counters have more than enough DPS to solo Pheromosa, with the supreme options having twice the DPS needed or more. On top of this, Pheromosa lacks coverage moves, making it straight-forward for most of its counters to outright crush it with ease.

Approach

Team composition

  • Flying Types. Yup, that's this whole section. Well, that and maybe focus on TDO, as most of the high-TDO options can still solo Pheromosa easily.

  • If you're running a duo due to its regional-raid status, then focus on DPS for maximum rewards.

Dodging strategy

  • You've got plenty of time, may as well dodge.

Best Raid Boss Counters

Supreme Mega Evolution Counters

Mega Rayquaza Mega Rayquaza
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

You win. That's it.

Seriously; Mega Rayquaza has nearly 3x the necessary DPS needed to solo Pheromosa, and has the average TDO needed to take about 1/3 of Pheromosa's HP down before dropping. With luck and good dodging, it's not unthinkable that it could potentially solo Pheromosa by itself, especially during Windy weather.

Mega Pidgeot Mega Pidgeot
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Mega Pidgeot may not have a Fighting Type resistance, but it still has power that's definitely solo-worthy.

Mega Blaziken Mega Blaziken
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Yes, just having a 1x Super Effective Fast Move and Brave Bird is enough to make Mega Blaziken a viable option, especially against Bug the Type moves that it double-resists.

Mega Charizard Y Mega Charizard Y
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Yup, Air Slash is enough. Mega Charizard Y also double-resists Bug, and has the added advantage of resisting Fighting as well, so it's definitely a valuable second-tier Mega Evolution option alongside the above.

Supreme Counters

Rayquaza Rayquaza
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

You don't need to Mega Evolve Rayquaza to make it work here, as basic Rayqyaza is more than enough to trash Pheromosa. High attack plus Dragon Ascent is enough to make it all come together and take the top spot among the non-Mega options.

Shadow-Ho-oh Shadow Ho-Oh
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Shadow Ho-oh has one of the highest TDOs among Pheromosa's counters, and is still way above solo-worthy in terms of DPS. Hidden Power Flying is ideal, but Incinerate is still more than good enough.

Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

While not on a par with its Shadow forme, Ho-oh still has more than enough DPS to solo Pheromosa.

Shadow-Lugia Shadow Lugia
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Shadow Lugia is a TDO titan, and it's an outstanding option here as well. This thing can easily take the win in this raid, though it will tend to have lower TDO against Bug Type moves while double-resisting Fighting Type moves.

ShadowMoltres Shadow Moltres
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

One of the true power-house Flying Types, Shadow Moltres is definitely still a top option for this raid. Like other Flying/Fire Types, it resists Fighting Type moves while double-resisting Bug Type moves, leaving it as an outstanding mix of DPS and TDO.

Shadow-Staraptor Shadow Staraptor
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

No Fighting resistance? No problem. Shadow Staraptor hits like a truck, and that's more than enough to justify using it.

Shadow-Honchkrow Shadow Honchkrow
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

No Fighting resistance? No problem. Shadow Honchkrow hits like a truck, and that's more than enough to justify using it.

Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

While behind the above, Yveltal is still very much worthy of inclusion here due to its relatively high DPS combined with solid TDO.

Good Counters

shadow_unfezant Shadow Unfezant
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

No Fighting resistance? No problem. Shadow Unfezant hits like a truck, and that's more than enough to justify using it.

....I feel like I've already written that somewhere...?

ShadowZapdos Shadow Zapdos
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

No Flying Type Fast Move? No problem. Shadow Zapdos still has the power needed to make its way towards a solo.

Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Even the old-fashioned version works wonders here.

Honchkrow Honchkrow
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

No Fighting resistance? No problem. Honchkrow hits like a truck, and that's more than enough to justify using it.

....I've definitely written that before, haven't I?

Shadow Mewtwo Shadow Mewtwo
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating

Yes, Shadow Mewtwo is strong enough to jump into this raid guide despite not having any Flying Type moves. It doesn't appreciate Pheromosa's Bug Type moves, but it still has good average performance.

Braviary Braviary
Fast MoveCharge MoveRating
Air Slash Fly Best

No Fighting resistance? No problem. Unfezant hits like a truck, and that's more than enough to justify using it.

....ever get a feeling of deja vu?

Tornadus (Incarnate Forme) Tornadus (Incarnate Forme)

The original pure Flying Type has the power needed to solo Pheromosa.
