Show Explanation/Analysis

Preferred IV: +ATK or +SPD

  • An asset to Attack and/or Speed best compliments Black Knight’s offensive playstyle with this set.

Weapon: Solemn Axe

Assist: Positional Assist

Special: Black Luna

  • Personal to Black Knight as well as the strongest and most consistent choice of offensive Special with a debilitating -80% to foe’s Def/Res when activated during combat.

Passive A: Atk/Spd Boosting A Skills

  • Given that this is a player phase-oriented build, any skill that greatly boosts Black Knight’s offensive stats such as Atk/Spd Ideal or Atk/Spd Unity makes for a great choice of A slot.

Passive B: Special Spiral 4 / Special Fighter / Wily Fighter or Slick Fighter

  • The one weakness of Black Luna’s staggering 80% cut to foe’s defensive stats is that it is not immune to damage reduction skills, but worry not; Special Spiral 4 is an exceptionally strong offensive skill that allows the user to nullify non-Special damage reduction skills upon Special activation as well as loop that Special by providing -2 cooldown after combat following the initial activation.
  • Special Fighter 4 is moreso built for a mixed-phase approach to combat, though it does have some useful aspects in the Player Phase such as the Special cooldown acceleration allowing one to activate their Special even through Guard skills.
  • Wily Fighter and Slick Fighter have the utility of neutralizing foe’s bonuses or neutralizing unit’s penalties respectively while also granting a guaranteed follow-up attack to win certain Speed ties.

Passive C: Assault Troop  / Armor March / Flexible

  • In order to have a unit in a class with 1 base movement work effectively in the Player Phase, skills that grant bonuses to that movement at the start of turn such as Assault Troop or Armor March are the most suitable choices of C slot.

Sacred Seal: Atk/Spd Boosting Seals / Heavy or Flashing Blade

  • Further boosts to Black Knight key stats in Atk/Spd from skills such as Blade Session or Atk/Spd solo make for a great choice of Sacred Seal.
  • If not already being given through Special Fighter, Heavy Blade or Flashing Blade both grant the cooldown acceleration for a more consistent activation of Black Knight’s Special.

Show Explanation/Analysis

Preferred IV: +ATK or +SPD or +DEF or +RES

  • Given how Black Knight’s kit functions as well as the Enemy Phase nature of this build, an asset or combination of assets in any of the four given stats can be advisable depending on the situation.

Weapon: Solemn Axe

Assist: Positional Assist

Special: Black Luna / Pavise / Aegis

  • The choice of Special with this playstyle is usually dictated by the accompanying B slot.
    • It is worth noting that Black Knight’s skills and stateline are more suited for the damaging Special route, though other options can be more effective given certain scenarios.

Passive A: Distant Counter Skills / Atk/Spd Boosting A Skills / Close Def 4

  • Any choice of skill that allows Black Knight to retaliate against ranged opponents such as his in-kit Distant Dart will generally be the ideal choice of A slot, especially when paired with an offensive Special.
  • For the sake of simple survival or with a build that specializes in Near Save, the use of skills that give the most in Atk/Spd or neutralizing the foe’s bonuses with Close Def can be more effective.

Passive B: Special Fighter / Hardy Fighter

  • Special Fighter provides several utilities by having both preventing the charge of foe’s Specials as well as accelerating your own while also healing the user upon the activation of any offensive Special (such as Black Luna).
    • Effects that would prevent the unit’s healing such as Deep Wounds are also reduced.
  • Hardy Fighter is the choice pairing for any damage-reducing Special that activates on the foe’s attack such as Aegis or Pavise by instantly charging it and doubling its effectiveness while also preventing the foe from using skills that guarantee their follow-up attack.

Passive C: D/R Far Save / A/S Near Save

  • The choice between Far Save and Near Save influences how the rest of this build is organized. However, it’s mostly advisable that you choose a version of the skill that boosts Black Knight’s most standout stat in Speed.

Sacred Seal: Form Skills / Deflect Skills

  • Form skills with the appropriate accompanying stats are the most ideal choice of Sacred Seal given Black Knight’s likely proximity to his teammates with this build.
  • Alternatively, Deflect skills can act as a safety net against brave weapon effects or other consecutive attacks.

Strengths

Solemn Axe

In addition to the typical Special cooldown acceleration and easy stat bonus during combat, Solemn Axe has several utilities both offensive and defense depending on the foe’s HP at the start of combat.

  • If 20% or higher, the opponent’s first attack is reduced by 40%
  • If 40% or higher, Black Knight will be granted a significant stat swing by inflicting a large debuff on the opponent’s offensive stats base on their own Attack value (maximum of -10 to both)
  • If 60% or higher, Black Knight is granted the effect of Null Follow-up and neutralizes any effects that guarantee the foe’s follow-up attack or prevents his own.

Extraordinary Offensive Stats

44 Attack and 44 Speed. Run.

Black Luna

There’s little to protect you after having your defensive stats lowered by 80%.. besides damage reduction skills, though that might not save you either.

Armored

As an Armored unit, Black Knight has access to strong class-exclusive skills such as Fighters and Saves.

Weaknesses

Unimpressive Defensive Stats

Base values of 35 in 30 are not great for any unit that wants to fit the role of an absolute tank. Keep in mind that the damage reduction in Black Knight’s weapon won’t always save him and stay away from area of effect (AoE) Specials such as Blazing Wind.
