Character Analysis
Sanae Kochiya (Hand in Hand With a Miracle) was released on December 22nd 2023 on "Relic Prayer: Moriya Shrine Treasure." For more up-to-date analysis, be sure to visit the Official Discord Server.
The Wind Priestess originally hailing from the Outside World has had a rollercoaster of a ride, from leaving behind her life as a normal human, to finding her place in Gensokyo as a miraculous Living God. Now she is one of the three notable figures from the Moriya Shrine, the other two being Kanako Yasaka and Suwako Moriya, those two being gods that serve as her guardians not only providing more wisdom, but simply just being that extra company to make Gensokyo a more enjoyable place to live in. This has now lead to Sanae Kochiya using all that she has learned in Gensokyo to resolve the Lost Word incident and regain her miraculous powers, and with the Bells of Infinite Prosperity and her Perfectly Clear Mirror, this Moriya Shrine Maiden will keep the faith and push forward!
L80 Sanae Kochiya is an Attack-Class Friend with a mix of self-sufficiency, and support, a mix of Hard and Slice Scaling and of course, her Stored Power mechanic allowing the team to get a 20% Boost in damage when her HP is at 100%.
As an Attacker / Supporter / Debuffer
- L80 Sanae’s bullet lines get a 25% increase if they are resisted against said target, whether it’s Sun, Moon, Wood, Metal, Earth or Star.
- L80 Sanae has the Stored Power mechanic on her Skill 3. For her, this means that while this is in effect with 100% HP, the whole team gets a 20% increase in damage output. Lasts for 3 turns.
- Has several Spirit Power buffs for herself on Skill 2 (1.50), and Spell Card 1’s Post-ATK (1.75). Also grants the team more Spirit Power with Skill 3 (0.75) and Spell Card 2 Post-ATK (1.00).
- Long-Lasting Yang ATK buffs for the team via Skill 1 and Spell Card 2 (both 4 turns). Also had Yang ATK buffs in her bullet lines of her Spread Shot and Spell Card 1.
- Yang ATK II on Last Word Pre-ATK.
- Yang DEF debuff on enemies via Last Word Pre-ATK.
- Team CRIT ATK buff via Last Word Pre-ATK as well as selfish bullet line buffs on Spell Card 1.
- CRIT DEF debuffs on enemies via Skill 1 and Last Word Pre-ATK.
- Team Accuracy buffs when Boosting.
- Yang DEF buff for the team on Last Word Pre-ATK as well as slight selfish Yang DEF buffs on her Spread Shot.
- Slight Agility buffs for herself on her bullet lines in her Focus Shot and Last Word.
- Also has both Hard and Slice Scaling in her Bullet Lines, with her Last Word having 100% of each on some.
- L80 Sanae’s Killers include Parallel Presence, Mastermind (LW), Human, Human Village, Youkai, Youkai Mountain, God, Religious, Sun, Moon, Star, Shrine Maiden, Monk, Hermit, Celestial, Tengu, Kappa and Oni
As a Healer
- HP Recovery for the team via Skill 3 (50%), as well as a HP Recovery for herself via both Spell Card Post-ATKs (40%).
- Passive 3 is guaranteed to heal up L80 Sanae’s HP by 20% every turn.
- Has multiple Absorb bullets, such as 2 of them on her All-Targeting Spell Card 1 (10% for each target hit) and an All-Targeting Last Word line (50% for each target hit)
As a Utility / Breaker
- Has many different elements appearing in her bullet lines. Star on the first 3 Last Word lines; 4 Earth on Spread Shot and Spell Card 2; 4 of Metal on Focus Shot and Spell Card 1; 2 Wood on both Shots; once in her Last Word, and 2 Sun and 2 Moon on Spell Cards 1 and 2 respectively, with both Sun and Moon appearing once in her Last Word.
- L80 Sanae benefits from Burn, Freeze and Paralyze anomalies with them buffing her Yang ATK, Yin ATK, CRIT ATK and CRIT Accuracy once per layer. Inflicts Freeze to the whole team with Skill 2 (3 layers, 3T), Paralyze anomalies on herself via Spell Card 2 (3 layers, 5T) as well as Burn anomalies inflicted on herself via both Shots.
- Also inflicts and breaks anomalies, mainly Paralyze. Skill 1 and Spell Card 1 both inflict 3 layers of it, lasting 3 and 2 turns respectively. These are broken via Solo Spread Shot (2P), All-Targeting Spell Card 1 (2P) and All-Targeting Last Word (3P). Her Last Word can also break any Burn and Freeze anomalies at 3P.
- Gives herself 2 Barriers when using Skill 2.
Receives 25% less damage from Fire and Water elements as per her Ability.
Story Card Recommendations

Spell Card
It’s always useful to have Spirit Power-boosting Story Cards (for herself or for the team) to help L80 Sanae with her Boosting that then helps with her quick bursts of Accuracy, but if you want Accuracy buffs that last more than 1 turn, that is always an option. To maximize her Hard and Slice scaling, cards that buff her Agility and Yang DEF can also help. Now assuming Yang ATK and CRIT ATK aren’t an issue, you can always move on to boosting the power of her Spell Cards, in Spell Card 1’s case, Ofuda or Metal boosting cards and for the other, Light or Earth boosting ones.

Night-Splitting Light
Secret Sealing Club Girls
Incident Shrine
I'm Alright!
Makai God's Descent
Evil Spirit Possession
Reisen's Moonlit Festival!
Puppeteer and Necromancer
Silver Gale
Congress of Sages
It’s absolutely no doubt that L80 Sanae’s best Story Card for her Last Word is her very own Hand in Hand with a Miracle! Boosting Star, Light and Laser bullets by 50% (3 lines get a 100% boost), plus this card patching up any awkwardness with that Light/Laser combination, it’s the one that will really show how powerful her Last Word can be!
Any alternatives may include Night-Splitting Light since its mix of Star and Laser boosting actually effectively works around the awkward element/bullet type distribution here, providing a 50% boost in bullets across the board. Other fairly solid options here can be for the Star elemental bullets (Secret Sealing Club Girls, Incident Shrine, I’m Alright!), and some Light boosting options (Makai God’s Descent, Evil Spirit Possession, Reisen’s Moonlit Festival!, Puppeteer and Necromancer, Silver Gale, Congress of Sages)
Character Skill Level Up Recommendations
The first one to pick here could be a toss-up between the second and third Skills mainly for their Spirit Power effects, but it might depend on if you value offensive buffs via anomalies or Stored Power more, but in this case, we’ll start off with Skill number 2, Wind Priestess, strengthening the old faithful Spirit Power as well as her Barrier gain and the Freeze anomalies on the team. Next up is Miracle Maiden, strengthening the team’s Spirit Power gain, increasing their HP recovery and of course, strengthens the Stored Power damage increase as well as reduce the Skill’s cooldown from 8 turns to 6. Last up is the still handy Living God, increasing the Yang ATK gained for the team, as well as adding more Paralyze anomalies and CRIT DEF debuffing onto enemies.
Character Strengths
Miraculous Power
Whether it be her wide range of Killers (both quality and quantity), or her power-enhancing Stored Power, or any other means like her Hard and Slice Scaling, L80 Sanae very much does what her role would entail as an Attack-Class Friend. With the main Killers she has being Human, Youkai, God, Youkai Mountain, Parallel Presence backed up by much more, she is more often than not going to find enemies to land her Critical Hits.
Super Supportive Shrine Maiden
L80 Sanae also brings a good chunk of support too, such as her Yang ATK buffs from Skill 1 and Spell Card 2’s Pre-ATK, both lasting 4 turns, a good amount of Spirit Power from Skill 3 and Spell Card 2’s Post-ATK, some Accuracy for the team when Boosting (can go hand in hand with aforementioned Spirit Power buffs. There are also some team buffs with Yang DEF and CRIT ATK in her Last Word Pre-ATK, but of course, her unique support lies in, again, that Stored Power in her Skill 3! Serving as another method of helping strong allies get even stronger, this kind of miracle could make all the difference in some battle scenarios!
A Moriya Shrine’s Worth of Self-Sufficiency
Whether it be offense, defense, utility or healing, L80 Sanae is definitely able to fend for herself and stay strong whatever the situation may be, she will most likely keep finding herself with 100% of her HP by her many ways of healing up, such as her Passive, Spell Card Post-ATKs, Skill 3 or some Absorb bullets, really making sure her Stored Power is in effect. She has a way of gaining more Barriers via Skill 2 so that Grazing and preserving her anomaly buffs won’t be an issue, and she has the potential to inflict and break 6 Paralyze anomalies from the jump, using a combo of Skill 1 and Spell Card 1. And of course, she has the Yang ATK, CRIT ATK, Spirit Power and Accuracy needed to stay afloat and miraculously wipe out her enemies!
Character Weaknesses
Hand in Hand with 6 Different Elements
Unfortunately, L80 Sanae struggles with elemental consistency, which may make it hard for her to know what element to specialize in, whether it’s Star that only appears in her Last Word, Earth appearing in her Spread Shot or Spell Card 1, Metal appearing in her Focus Shot or Spell Card 2, or Wood, Sun and Moon appearing more scattered and to a lesser extent. While this is heavily mitigated by her strong Paralyze breaking potential as mentioned above, it’s still going to be awkward to try and land effective damage on enemies, especially if they have as few as 1 elemental weakness. On top of that, her Last Word’s 3P elements are very scattered and when looking for strong damage potential in specific scenarios, this could be a bit of a downside even from an offensive standpoint
Not Enough Faith for Every Buff
L80 Sanae’s self-sufficiency is definitely strong, but it doesn’t cover every little thing. Having the Hard and Slice Scaling to further increase her damage output, her Yang DEF and Agility buffs are unfortunately a bit limited, appearing on some bullet lines and in Yang DEF’s case, in her Last Word Pre-ATK. Should these buffs be maxed out, L80 Sanae can further reap the rewards of both Scalings, even though their base stats aren’t the highest with 1200 Agility and 925 Yang DEF. On a lesser note, should L80 Sanae not have access to Boosting whether it’s by being binded by Boost lock, or just having less than 1.00 Spirit Power, Accuracy could be a potential issue.
