This build aims to capitalize on Conrad’s Enemy Phase playstyle by maximizing his excellent durability.

Conrad can perform well with any of the common Defensive inheritable swords available, although a Resistance refined Barrier Blade pushes Conrad’s Resistance to incredible heights on Enemy Phase. He can also take advantage of a Slaying Edge to activate his Special more quickly.

Distant Counter enhances Conrad’s role as an Enemy Phase tank by allowing him to tank and KO ranged foes, although Mirror Stance 3 and Fort Def/Res are also solid options if one opts to make Conrad a purely physical tank. Quick Riposte is one of Conrad’s best B slot options as it allows him to perform follow-ups on Enemy Phase in spite of his awful Speed, although one can utilize it in the Sacred Seal and opt for a different B slot skill, such as Lull Atk/Def.

Pulse Smoke remains one of the best C slot skills available for Enemy Phase units in Aether Raids, especially against Infantry Pulse teams. Atk Smoke is also a solid option on a budget, and Conrad’s C slot skill can be changed to fit the team’s needs. Defensive Sacred Seals such as Close Def greatly benefit Conrad by increasing his durability even further.

This build aims to take advantage of Conrad’s high bulk by making him an incredibly durable Frontline unit for Aether Raids Defense.

A Rally is necessary for Rally trap setups, otherwise Conrad’s assist depends on what the team needs. Defensive Specials are chosen to further reduce the damage Conrad takes when initiating.

Conrad’s default Melee Bouquet is a fantastic option for AR Defense units, as it grants a pseudo Sturdy Impact effect to the user, making it even harder to KO them when they initiate.

Fury 4 and Lull Atk/Def add even more to Conrad’s bulk, while Lull Atk/Def has the additional benefit of negating the foe’s Attack and Defense buffs. Panic Smoke is the preferred C slot so that Conrad can effectively neutralize buffed Supertank units that he initiates on, such as Nowi or Fallen Corrin.

Finally, a defensive seal such as Steady Stance helps Conrad’s Enemy Phase bulk, in case the foe attempts to disable the potential Lunge trap by KO’ing him and escaping.
Strengths
Incredible Defenses
Conrad’s 33/35 Defensive statline is one of the highest on any cavalier, granting Conrad incredible raw durability. His high defenses also make him a great user of Defense scalng specials, such as Iceberg.
Cavalry
In addition, Valentine Conrad’s status as a cavalier grants him increased mobility and access to class exclusive buffs, such as Ward and Fortify Cavalry.
Weaknesses
Poor Speed
Conrad’s low base Speed of 23 leaves him highly susceptible to follow-up attacks from a plethora of faster heroes, such as Larcei and Eliwood. This also leaves him vulnerable to Enemy Special triggers without the Guard effect, especially if the foe has means of Special cooldown acceleration, such as Heavy Blade.
Cavalier
Conrad is also left weak to effective weaponry and terrain due to his status as a cavalier.
