Analysis

Overview

Assassin Cartuja is a 4 Dark Warrior that is most commonly seen in arena or guild wars defense that is known for randomly terrorizing even the highest echelon of players. Assassin Cartuja's main draw is his S2 passive, Battle Fervor, which grants each of his teammates 15% evasion chance. Evasion is considered a very strong defense mechanism since not only does it reduce damage, the attack cannot critically strike or apply status effects. This is often times pair with heroes who often synergize with evasion such as Violet or Arbiter Vildred, who has evasion or miss chance debuff built in, to hopefully cheat a win out of an attacker. Since he needs to be alive for the passive to take effect, Assassin Cartuja is generally built as a bruiser, or even a pure tank in higher play.

Strengths

Very Strong Defensive Utility

In high end PvP, Assassin Cartuja terrorizes attackers by generating a passive 15% chance for them to miss their attacks, failing to crit and missing all statuses. For himself, every turn he's guaranteed to dodge 1 attack and gain CR from that. Which means if he's built with enough speed, he can become quite a nuisance to kill while making his team unsuspectingly tanky.

Offense/Counter-offensive Utility

With his S3, sudden assault, Assassin Cartuja can stun enemies on top of defense breaking them for 2 turns. If an enemy uses a light type unit, unless it has immunity, it will be stunned out of a turn and defense broken can be easily killed.

Multi-facet Synergy

Since dodge chance is so widely usable as a defense utility, Assassin Cartuja can pair with many different type of team comps looking to increase its survivability. With a tank/stall team, his dodge chance procs can make any attacks tickle. With DPS teams, he can let attacks like Violet or Arbiter Vildred barely survive a strong hit, allowing for a counter attack with Moonlight Dreamblade.

Weaknesses

Hit or Miss

Due to the nature of dodge chance, Assassin Cartuja's defensive passive is much more prone to feeling like it does nothing for the defender sometimes, and thus it is much more consistent to replace this passive with something more dependable such as Crimson Armin, or Fallen Cecilia, which are both considered to be stronger units when it comes to the defensive passives they carry.

Not Fun

Since Assassin Cartuja is mostly used as a passive defender, he doesn't provide any fun factor for the defending player. On the other hand, when playing against him, he either does nothing or causes frustration for the attacking player, causing him to be a hero that is looked down on for how uninteractive he makes a fight.

Builds

PvP Tank

The core concept behind this build is to make Assassin Cartuja as annoying as possible. If the enemy brings a single target damage team, they have to choose between ignoring him and gamble on the off chance a dodge won't happen to the other members to win, or focus him down a burn a lot of cooldowns to focus a tank. This choice for the attacker is further exacerbated by the fact that Assassin Cartuja will dodge any first attack against him on any given turn.

 

Gears

To really focus on this aspect, we can throw damage out the window and focus solely on defense stats, speed to get his guaranteed dodge back faster, and effectiveness to land his occasional stun/def break, which really puts an emergency on the attackers.

 

Artifacts

Durandal is an outstanding pick at CR boosting Assassin Cartuja further between his turns, and it can help a lot against AoE teams, which tends hit him with chip damage and repeatedly give him more turns, and subsequently guaranteed dodge. Any other defensive artifact can do the job such as Proof of Valor or Draco Plate.

 

Skill Ups 

As far as skillups go, Assassin Cartuja does not need too much to hit his peak since his passive chance doesn't scale with skill up. Thus, it is only necessary that players get the -1 cooldown for his S3, and if they would really like to, S2 and then S1.

Team

Core

This would be an example team that uses Assassin Cartuja that can be seen in Legend in arena. Each part of the team is tanky and synergizes with Battle Frenzy. Each member can be replaced with any other member that fulfills the same role.

Fallen Cecilia: Crimson Armin, Lilias, Krau, Troublemaker Crozet, a knight to carry Aurius
Ruele: Maid Chloe, Angelic Montmorancy, Angelica, Destina, any cleansing healer or another tank with a different tank utility(Adamant Shield, Bastion of Perlutia)
Arbiter Vildred: Martial Artist Ken, Seaside Bellona, Charles, Violet or a counter attack set hero (Dizzy, Apocalypse Ravi, Ravi)

A team structure like this would be an example of an anti-cleave team in Arena, where the defending player tries to have their team survive the initial onslaught of a cleave, and then mount of a comeback.
