Control Mage

Stats and Sets

Building a control mage is relatively simple, just worry about eff%, speed, and bulk.

For playing F Tenebria as an initiator, simply max out her speed while still preserving eff%.

As a follow up control mage where she doesn't need to initiate, maintain enough speed to follow up the initiator and maximize eff% to guarantee the redirected provoke on their enemy soul weavers. In the current meta, while she certainly can be an initiator, she is much more reliable as a follow up as Cerise is the premier initiator and enemy immunities can be protected by a Fallen Cecilia as F Tenebria can only dispel 1 buff.

Speed set is basically mandatory to play her PvP while hit set is easier to farm and can help her become a better follow up controller.

Skill-ups

As she is a control mage, we only want -1 cooldown and + effect chance from her, which gives her a very budget +3 on s3 and a choice for players to upgrade S1 for consistency or skip entirely for molagora budget. She'll still do her job regardless.

Artifacts

Iela Violin - is a stand out choice for F Tene as many meta heroes on her release are very buff reliant and the dispel can randomly knock a lot of top tier DPS heroes out of their safety net (R Violet's evasion, T Surin's Stealth)

Fairy Tale for a Nightmare - is her own signature artifact and can be used in conjunction with her S2 in a full control composition to add some chip damage each turn (+15 copy will do 5000 damage to 4 enemies per S2 proc).

Tagehel's Ancient Book - can be considered while not entirely strong on F Tene herself, other control mages can certainly take advantage of the extra souls for more debuff shenanigans and F Tene could once in a while use it for an extra turn to cast a clutch S3.

Sira-Ren - is a decent budget option for players don't might not have the other listed artifacts as it is quite common and even at lower enhancement levels can generously dish out random debuffs to the enemy team though it's very unreliable.

Team

Core

This is the basic framework of a Fairytale Tenebria team that can be used to guild war against an aggressive team by forcing enemy DPS to kill themselves on Martial Artist Ken. The same team can be transplanted into 4-man content such as RTA by adding a tank with provoke to increase S2 procs and to absorb part of the incoming damage.

Analysis

Overview

Fairytale Tenebria is a 5* Ice type control mage that brings a brand new debuff, redirected provoke, forcing enemies to attack players’ high HP hero. Redirected provoke allows players to utilize creative strategies around tanky characters that were previously deemed too slow for certain metas such as Martial Artist Ken and Dark Corvus. Even as a control mage, F Tenebria is extremely flexible as she can be built anywhere from an initiator (full speed) to a control bruiser that can be flexed into both PvP and PvE. Overall she is a decent limited unit that will definitely see usage due to her flexibility.

Strengths

Unique Debuff: Redirected Provoke

Being the first unit with this debuff, for now she’s the only one who can enable strategies centered around forcing attacks onto tanks.

Unique Extra Attack

With her S2 passive, F Tenebria can constantly cycle random debuffs onto the entire enemy team between unhealable, defense break, or silence. This can be further augmented by her artifact as it can be used to apply stuns (Abyssal Crown), dispel (Iela Violin), or more random debuffs (Sira-Ren).

Dispel + Unbuffable S3

Redirected provoke aside, her S3 is still one of the strongest combinations of tools in the game, especially in the hands of a control mage, like an alternative to Basar. Her weakness here is that it only dispels 1 buff so immunities can be protected by passive barriers such as Fallen Cecilia passive or Bastion of Perlutia.

Weaknesses

Conditional S2

While her S2 is very strong, it has the awkward condition of only activating when a provoked (or redirected provoked) enemy attacks. In a vacuum it only activates once every 4 turns or every turn when paired with a hero that can provoke such a Dark Corvus or Fallen Cecilia.

Irrelevant S1

While the rest of her tool kit is very loaded, F Tene’s S1, her most commonly used skill, stands out of place as it applies 2 stacks of poison between 30~45% chance depending on enhancement. Poison is mostly ineffective in PvP and strong in PvE. But even at max enhance, that is 20% (1 in 5) chance to activate both stacks and 69.75% (about 2 in 3) chance to activate at least 1 stack, making it somewhat unreliable even for PvE.

Awkward Soulburn

While other top tier control mages such as BRomann and Basar make their living off of their game changing soul burn, F Tene can burn 20 for an extra turn on her poison stacks. While it could potentially have it’s purposes in PvE, in PvP even Maid Chloe has a better soul burn as she can fish for a stun as she reduces her cooldown.
