Taranor’s Sexiest Dragonslayer

Gear

This is a purely Wyvern-centric build that plays to Krau's fantastic HP scaling and Wyvern 11's unique mechanics.

The goal is to build Krau entirely focused around Health, Defense, and Speed. He doesn't need Effectiveness, since Wyvern 11 is immune to Provoke, and he doesn't need Effect Resistance, because Wyvern 11 doesn't cause ailments. If Krau has at least 14k Health and 1200 Defense, then he should be able to survive Wyvern's triple fireball spit at least once, giving you some safety in the encounter.

Naturally, Krau needs HP%, Def%, and Speed in order to tank Wyvern. Health is more important than Defense, since Krau's damage scales with Health, so his last substat would ideally be flat HP (though some flat Defense is okay as well). You should also definitely use an Ego Fragment on Krau to switch his Devotion Aura if possible, since he would benefit from the Health much more than the rest of his team would.

Artifacts

For the Wyvern 11 Hunt, Krau's best Artifact is probably Noble Oath. Noble Oath helps protect Krau as he loses HP, and his S3 becomes stronger the lower his HP, so the effects work together perfectly. Another awesome Artifact is the Sword of Ezera, which simply reduces Wyvern's damage against Krau. It has fewer applications elsewhere, but if you're only using Krau specifically for Wyvern, it can be very helpful.

An unconventional option is Justice For All. Because Wyvern dispels buffs, Justice For All helps keep Krau's barriers and Defense buff safe by stacking a bunch of additional buffs on Krau every time he acts. On the other hand, the best budget option is probably Prophetic Candlestick, since Krau will be eating a bunch of hits and the Candlestick turns those hits into free cooldown reduction.

Team

Core

This is a pretty typical example of a Wyvern 11 team. Krau can easily tank Wyvern's fireballs, and Angelic Montmorancy's healing scales with her target's maximum HP (which, on Krau, is going to be gigantic).

Mistychain and Clarissa need to handle debuff duty with this team, since neither Krau's Provoke nor Angelic Montmo's Sleep will work on Wyvern. This is easier if Mistychain equips the Sira-Ren Artifact and if Clarissa builds some Effectiveness substats so her Defense Break and Bleed can stick more easily.

Try to save Krau's S3 for when Wyvern puts up its barrier, as the powerful blow really helps in breaking the barrier before the time limit runs out.

Super Sonic Krau

Get it? Because he's blonde and spiky?

Gear

Anyway, when it comes to PvP, Krau can't just build raw Health and still be the same threat he is in PvE. Speed is king in PvP, and that goes for Krau as much as anybody else.

Fortunately, Krau scales well with Speed. A fast Krau is a Krau who's running out his cooldowns faster, Provoking more enemies, and CR-delaying more often. No opponent in their right mind is going to willingly attack Krau first, so Krau has to force them to do it by leveraging the Provoke on his S1.

Complement his newfound Spd with HP%, Def%, a little Effectiveness if you can, and a LOT of Effect Resistance (unless you have an Immunity unit on your team like Angelica or Vivian, and maybe even then, considering the prevalence of buff dispellers like Basar and Hurado). Krau likes a long, drawn-out brawl, and nothing stops his fun like being Stunned for two turns by Wanda, made Unhealable by Seaside Bellona, or Defense Broken by just about every team out there.

Artifacts

Krau has so many good Artifacts for PvP that it's hard to choose just one:

  • Aurius. It's the bread and butter of almost every Knight in PvP for a reason.
  • Elbris Ritual Sword. Any Knight with Provoke on their S1 is nasty as hell with Elbris, and Krau is no exception.
  • Holy Sacrifice. Play as risky as you want with his S3 -- he'll revive once per battle anyway!
  • Noble Oath. It's not as direct as Holy Sacrifice, but it also helps you pull off risky plays with his S3.

Team

Core

This is a high-investment team, but one that pays big dividends. Diene combines barriers and Critical Resistance to make the party very survivable without actually recovering their Health. Once Krau hits low Health, he uses his S3... then Iseria refreshes his cooldowns and he can nuke again. Meanwhile, if the enemy tries to use debuffs and crowd control to break this team, Champion Zerato punishes them immediately and Diene then cleanses the debuffs with her S2.

Analysis

Overview

Krau is arguably the #1 husbando, er, tank, with a kit that uses his bulk to great effect. Even when he’s built for full Health, he still possesses a significant amount of damage output and utility, making him a great hero to take anywhere. Raids? Check. Wyvern? Check. PvP? Check. This guy does it all. (Except write things. Don’t ask him to write things.)

Strengths

HP Scaling

Krau scales entirely from his massive HP pool. Krau's skills have very low Atk scaling and VERY high Health scaling, with +8.5% on his S1, +13% on his S2, and a staggering +53.571% on his S3. As a result, when built full Health to do his tanking job, he also hits very hard compared to most other tanks.

Great Damage Mitigation

A tank's job is to protect his or her allies, and Krau is built for this job. His S1 causes Provoke, and his S2 grants allies a Def buff while simultaneously damaging and delaying one enemy. Combining these effects makes it very difficult for enemies to make a dent in your team.

Phenomenal S3

Krau has one of the most lethal S3’s in the game (when used properly). Summon Ziegfried does damage based on the amount of HP that Krau is missing (penetrating Defense) and then grants him a massive barrier for 2 turns. Especially in Arena or Guild Wars, Krau's S3 is almost a guaranteed one-hit-K.O., and the barrier he gets after using it makes it that much harder for the surviving enemies to take him down.

Superb Natural Defenses

With some of the highest Health and Defense stats in Epic Seven, Krau is the very definition of "beefcake." Spears, arrows, and dark magic bounce off his sleek steel abs -- er, that is, armor.

Weaknesses

Vulnerable to Dispel

As with all other buffers, Krau suffers immensely when enemies can dispel his buffs; even single-buff clears are effective. In addition, because his S2 decreases enemy CR, you may occasionally outspeed the enemy by too much and lose your Def buff before their turn. Additionally, Wyvern 11 (where Krau is likely to be used) dispels one buff when he attacks, putting a serious dent in Krau's survivability.

Boss Immunity to Provoke/ CR-Knockback

Provoke does not work on the majority of bosses, and Krau spends a lot of time swinging his sword on S1. CR-knockback also doesn’t work on most bosses. Most notably, Krau cannot push back Wyvern, which is one of the battles where players are most likely to want to use Krau.

Long Cooldown on S3

Summon Ziegfried is a fantastic nuke and can turn an encounter by itself, but it is plagued with a very long cooldown and requires risky play. You can fix the risky plays with Artifacts like Holy Sacrifice or the cooldown with Artifacts like Prophetic Candlestick, but not both at the same time. Even worse, if you choose to Soulburn his S3 for an extra turn, he will waste a turn of the barrier that the skill grants.

Slow Speed

There’s no way around it: while Krau's survivability is superb, he suffers from a low base Speed stat of just 100. Without at least some Speed boots, he will struggle to keep his buffs up. Worse, he may even be K.O.'ed before he can pull out an appropriately game-changing S3.
