Builds

Taranor’s Sexiest Man

This build invests fully into HP to abuse Krau’s fantastic HP scaling. Speed on boots is still important, since the 40 Speed cannot be achieved any other way. Krau does appreciate extra DEF, HP, EffRes%, and EFF%, due to being a tank. Nothing is worse than being Stunned and locked out of S3. Try to forgo critical hit chance/damage, as Krau’s S3 cannot crit. Attack is also a poor investment as, like Tywin, Krau’s attack value contributes fairly little to his damage overall.

Note that having too much Speed can negatively affect Krau’s survivability by making him run out of DEF buff uptime quicker. However, due to his excellent cooldown on S2, it will still help your team to survive better overall, and he is still unlikely to die unless he takes extreme spike damage.

Team

Core

Krau has good synergy with Mistychain and the rare ML Chloe, who can revive him with minimal HP for some massive damage on his S3. He also appreciates heals that scale from his large HP pool and CR pushers, so Heroes like Lots are also a good choice. His cooldowns are long, so he also benefits from teammates such as Dingo. The Target debuff affects the damage on his S3, so rangers with Song of Stars are also a fine choice for PvE - especially Iseria, who can reset his S3’s cooldown.

Analysis

Overview

Krau is arguably the #1 husbando, er, tank, with a kit that uses his bulk to great effect. Even when he’s built for full health, he still possesses a significant amount of damage output and utility, making him a great Hero to take anywhere. Raids? Check. Wyvern? Check. PvP/GW? Check. This guy does it all. Except write things. Don’t ask him to write things.

Strengths

HP Scaling

Krau scales entirely from his massive HP pool. All of his Skills (despite the description on his S2, Charge) scale from his HP pool. As a result, he can and should be built incredibly tanky, which will also make him hit very hard compared to most other tanks.

Teamwide DEF Buff

Krau’s S2, Charge, comes bundled with a teamwide DEF Buff for 2 turns and a significant CR knockback on the enemy targeted.

S3 Deals DEF-Ignoring Damage

In addition to scaling entirely from HP, Krau also has one of the most lethal S3’s in the game (when low on HP). Summon Ziegfried does damage purely based on the amount of HP that Krau is missing, dealing a portion of that as damage and then granting him a massive Shield for 2 turns. Despite not being able to crit, it more than makes up for it through sheer damage dealt, especially in PvP/GW.

Weaknesses

Vulnerable to Dispel

As with all other buffers, Krau suffers immensely when enemies can dispel his buffs; even single-buff clears are effective. In addition, because his S2 decreases enemy CR, you run the risk of occasionally outspeeding the enemy by too much and not having your DEF buff when their turn rolls around. Additionally, Wyvern, where Krau is likely to be used, Dispels a buff when he attacks. Krau will only have his Shield/DEF Buff up for a maximum of 1 hit.

Provoke/Knockback Doesn’t Work on Bosses

Provoke does not work on the majority of bosses, and Krau spends a lot of time swinging his sword on S1. Knockback also doesn’t work on most bosses, and even though most Raid bosses are not immune to CR  manipulation, Krau notably cannot push back Wyvern, where he is likely to be used.

Long Cooldown on S3

Summon Ziegfried is a fantastic nuke and can turn an encounter by itself, but it is plagued with a very long cooldown and requires risky play. While the risks can be somewhat mitigated by the artifact, Holy Sacrifice, Summon Ziegfried is still only available every 5 turns AT BEST. Even worse, if you choose to Soul Burn his S3, he will waste a turn of the Shield buff that it grants.

Subpar Speed

Lastly, Krau’s Speed stat is subpar. There’s no way around it - for all that HP he’s packing, he suffers from a low base Speed stat of just 100. As a result, without at least some Speed boots, he will struggle mightily to keep his buffs up, or may end up being knocked out before he can save himself with his S3.
