Stats Build
Due to his base stats and awakening having no more than the default 15% crit chance, Pavel's build needs to be carefully considered by each player and what resource are available to them. Due to his natural synergy with Auxiliary Lots and Challenger Dominiel, we will look at how Pavel can fit on a team with these heroes.
Pavel has most commonly been built 2 ways: A Lots -> C Dom -> Pavel, which we will refer to as "Speed Pavel," and Aux Lots -> Pavel -> C Dom, which we will refer to as "Damage Pavel." Both builds assume that the player will be maximizing ATK and Crit Damage, since they are the primary stats for increasing damage potential.
Speed Pavel
With this turn order, the key is that Pavel must be built fast enough to be boosted within the 20% CR boost margin of C Dom. The advantage of this build is that C Dom also receives an ATK Up buff and Pavel only needs to be built with 50% Crit Chance, since C Dom gives a buff for 50% more.
Damage Pavel
In this build, Aux Lots will directly boost Pavel to the top of the turn order, and through his crits, Pavel will boost C Dom up. This builds allows for 0 speed but Pavel must have 100% Crit Chance so that he will deal full damage to all targets and ensure the 50% CR boost (10% per target per hit) to Challenger Dominiel. The advantage of this build is that Pavel will be hitting much harder, which can make the difference in high end PvP, since many Seaside Bellonas can get quite tanky.
*The recommend build below will be for Speed Pavel, since Wyvern 11 is a more common Hunt and most players will likely be attempting this build first.
Artifacts
As a burst DPS, Pavel wants to have the most upfront damage increase. The following are his best options:
- Portrait of the Saviors - The Best in Slot Artifact for any burst hero, whether they are cleavers or single-target. Since it is limited, not everyone has access to this Artifact and there may be multiple heroes competing for it.
- Iron Fan - As the premier Seaside Bellona counter, Pavel can take this for the most damage increase against Ice units, freeing up Portrait for other heroes that might need it.
- Exorcist's Tonfa - A poor man's Portrait. 3★ means that it should be easy to obtain multiple copies, making it easier to max out as well.

Team

This would be the prototypical Pavel team, with both Aux Lots and C Dom carrying Tagehel's Ancient Book to start with 40 Souls, allowing a variety of strategic options.
Outside of the core three heroes, players should fill their last "flex" spot with a hero who can counter any threats or contingencies a particular defense might bring. Faithless Lidica is usually a good choice because she can delay the cooldown of revive healers. The fact that she can also CR boost means Pavel will be getting a net 40% total CR, further lowering his Speed requirement.
Turn order in battle:
- Aux Lots S2 on C Dom
- C Dom S3 to CR Boost
- C Dom S1 (Soulburn or not) to soften/ kill a squishy target
- F Lidica S2 to CR Boost
- F Lidica S3 to max-delay the cooldown of a reviver
- Pavel S2
- Pavel S3 the remaining high priority target
- Grind out rest of the fight

Analysis
Overview
Pavel is a 5★ Earth Ranger released in January 2020. He is the first male RGB hero released since Charles. Due to his ability to ignore damage transfer effects such as Aurius, he is marketed by SmileGate to be the definitive Seaside Bellona counter, who has been dominant in PvP since her release. Being a Virgo Ranger, Pavel has quite high base Speed and Attack, which signifies good damage potential that is unfortunately marred by mediocre damage multipliers and low utility.
Strengths
Damage Share Ignore
Pavel's marquee ability, Destructive Pursuit, ignores damage-sharing effects, which is a defensive utility carried by many tanks in PvP through Aurius. This makes him a specialist at taking out singular high-value targets who would otherwise hide themselves behind their tank's HP wall.
Very High Base Stats
Sporting very high base ATK and SPD for a ranger, Pavel has the potential to become a very good sustain DPS despite his kit favoring a more burst-heavy playstyle. Even when built as a burst DPS, Pavel can cycle turns relatively quickly compared to other burst DPS heroes.
Self ATK Buff
After awakening his S2, Storm Bullet, Pavel can grant himself an ATK Up buff for 2 turns before attacking, which works into his combo flawlessly, making him more flexible in terms of builds and team comps.
Weaknesses
Low Damage Modifiers
The biggest issue with Pavel upon release is that, contrary to his introduction as the next Burst DPS, his damage modifiers are noticeably mediocre. Since a lot of utility and damage of his kit is sacrificed for the "Damage dealt increases proportional to the caster's Speed" tag, which is quite low and isn't worth the sacrifices made to the kit. In order to maximize his damage, Pavel's S2 and S3 should be maxed out through Skill Enhancement ASAP.
Underwhelming S2
Part of what makes Pavel a self-sufficient burst DPS is the ATK buff on his S2, which can be Soulburned for an extra turn, which then can activate S3 after softening a high priority enemy target. There are a few issues with the way this works, however:
- For one, this combo will require 20 Souls, which isn't so bad considering his natural synergies, but it puts a requirement on his builds nonetheless.
- Two, when attacking into meta favorites Martial Artist Ken or Charles, both of whom can reliably counterattack this skill, it becomes a liability since Pavel can easily die in the middle of his combo if countered.
- Lastly, only Pavel's S3 ignores damage-sharing effects. The damage from his S2 does not have this ability, thus drawing more damage away from the intended usage of the character.
Low to No Defensive Options
Since he does not stand out as a burst DPS, can he be supported as a sustained DPS option? While his base stats (high SPD and ATK) are compatible with this playstyle, he has no defensive options like the other premier sustain DPS heroes. Heroes such as Assassin Coli or Kayron can survive multiple turns while dishing heavy damage. Pavel lacks survivability, and so despite his base stats, he doesn't make a strong enough sustained DPS hero.
