The crafty and manipulative Raum is a tricky villain, well deserving his status amongst the 72 Demon Pillars. Befitting his image, Raum packs several annoying tools to try to mess with Masters’ battle plan.
Masters should make sure to take advantage of the first enemy wave to build up NP gauge for the team, as well as conserving buffs until facing off against Raum.
Raum’s main gimmick is his field effect that halves all Masters’ Servants levels, effectively weakening them both offensively and defensively.
Two of Raum’s skills’ purpose is to quickly stack up Damage over Time onto Masters’ Servants. If the battle drags on without debuff clearance, it could result in major damage every turn.
Raum’s Noble Phantasm inflicts a nasty buff block debuff onto everyone. Masters can either counter this through debuff immunity, debuff clearance, sacrifice a less useful buff skill to consume this buff block stack or wait for one turn before using their skills. Whichever it is, paying attention to this debuff will save Masters a lot of headache.
Raum has a very short NP gauge, being an Assassin. Upon break, he will immediately charge his NP gauge by one, thus Masters must pay close attention to when they are close to breaking his first HP bar, or risk taking his AoE damage.
One of Raum’s skills will grant him an one-turn Evade, which may make the fight last longer than planned if he uses it continuously. Both Sure Hit and Invincibility Pierce works against this. Similarly, buff removal can also counteract this effect.
- Note: Caster Servants still have their bonus to Bond Points for this quest.
Given Raum’s class and the Bond bonus, it is fairly obvious that a single target Caster is the best DPS option for the fight such as Illyasviel von Einzbern, Xuanzang Sanzang, Medea or Caster of Midrash.
Single target Alter Egos and Berserkers are acceptable choices as well should Masters lack a strong Caster. Meltryllis, Mecha Eli-chan, Sakata Kintoki, Heracles or Cu Chulainn (Alter) are all capable.
A more aggressive approach is highly recommended for this fight given Raum’s short NP gauge and Damage Over Time stacking shenanigans. Offensive Support Servants that can help take Raum out in minimal turns are fantastic for this purpose, especially supports with NP Battery skills such as Merlin, Zhuge Liang, William Shakespeare or Helena Blavatsky.
The Mystic Code Chaldea Combat Uniform is naturally the best for buff-stacking strategy. Similarly, Anniversary Blond is a great alternative for Masters wanting to use Buster Critical team.
Although less effective, Masters favoring a more stable approach should consider bringing debuff removal as it can remove Raum’s stacking team-wide curse debuff, as well as the buff block status from his Noble Phantasm and the NP Gain rate debuff after his Break. Servants such as Jeanne d’Arc or Florence Nightingale can help tremendously when the need arrives.
- Similarly, Servants that grant teamwide Evade or Invincibility like David or Tristan can help the team survive through her Noble Phantasm, but require good timing on the Master’s part.
