Tywin is a premier single-target tank optimized for taking the brunt of boss damage. He serves a dual purpose as a debuffer/buffer, yet his speed and personal CR boost allow him to keep up with the best damage dealers. This additionally allows him an additional role in arena cleave teams as a leading AoE breaker.

Very Tanky Yet Speedy

Tywin is tied for sixth highest HP in the game, and his DEF is no slouch either. He ties with Cecilia for the second-highest speed stat in the game among Knights.

Reliable AoE DEF Break

With some investment, Tywin is the possessor of the only 100% AoE DEF break in the game, All-Out Attack. He passes up Baal & Sezan (85%) and ML Ken (75%). This comes on a five-turn CD, reduced to four turns with the same investment. He even gets his own three turn DEF buff from the same skill - a strong bonus.

Critical Chance Buffer

With his decent Speed, Tywin can maintain near 100% uptime on his CritC/ATK buff for himself and one ally via Commanding Shout. The CritC buff is quite rare, and eases crit rate requirements on gear for DPS, allowing them to focus on other substats. It makes gearing Ice DPS heroes for Wyvern especially easy.

Single-Buff Removal

Tywin unfortunately does not sport a full dispel on Sword Storm, and it is unreliable. A 75% chance to remove just a single buff is not enough for the +5 enhancement that it requires. Buffs usually come as a package deal.

No Provoke

As with any other tank who does not have Provoke, Tywin cannot force enemies to attack him, which often leaves his squishier teammates in the lurch. This is mitigated for Wyvern 11, since the wyvern will always attack the frontmost unit. Despite this, he can of course use the excellent artifact ‘Aurius’ for other modes.

Buffs are not AoE

Unlike All-Out Assault, Commanding Shout is NOT a full AoE - only Tywin and one teammate  can get the CritC/ATK buff. This can leave you in an awkward position where an additional AoE attack buffer feels somewhat wasted, and Tywin’s damage is fairly poor. His personal buffs only put his damage up to ‘moderate’, as his HP-scaling damage is still poor, despite his being built like a tank.

Shield of Lefundos

This build capitalizes on Tywin’s good base speed to maintain a steady stream of DEF break and ATK/CritC buffs. It also provides him with the HP that he needs for his HP-scaling attacks, and the Effectiveness that he needs to ensure debuffs stick.

With access to the Knight-exclusive artifact, Sword of Ezera, Tywin is practically guaranteed to survive anything a boss can dish out. If you do not have access to Sword of Ezera, Noble Oath is also a good option for extra tanking power, or Aurius for team-wide damage soaking.

Tywin is a very self-sufficient Hero who comes with his own long-lasting DEF buff and his fast-cycling ATK buff/CritC buff/CR push. That being said, he is still not the best support for a team, so don’t forget to bring another support who can complement him with the buffs that he lacks.

Tywin’s excellent combination of tankiness and Speed, along with a universally strong debuff on a relatively short cooldown, guarantees him a spot in most teams.

Tywin has good synergy with any strong Ice attacker for Wyvern. He eases critical chance requirements, freeing up more space for further ATK% or CritD% increases.

In PvE, he is a good partner for Luna, as he supplements her DEF break uptime and provides her build some leeway. The same goes for Chloe, whose Magic Nail passive will make Tywin do commmendable damage on his turns. Lower-rarity options include Karin, who benefits greatly from the CritC% buff, and Mistychain/Clarissa.

He is also a good partner for any cleave arena team, given his 100% AoE DEF break and his very remarkable speed (for a Knight). Good partners there include Bellona, who can DEF break anyone he misses, and any heavy AoE damage dealer. As a bonus, he can even carry the vaunted defensive artifact, Aurius, to help his team.

The team listed above is an example of a good team for Wyvern.

This is an example of a balanced secondary team for other types of content, including PvP.
