Event Overview

Last week, the Wizards Unite team released details for the upcoming December Community Day. To recap, here are the event details:

  • Date: Saturday, Dec 14th
  • Time: 11am-2pm local time
  • Featuring: Hagrid's Hut Registry Page and other bonuses

While previous Community Days have featured entire Families, this coming Community Day, much like the recent Legends of Hogwarts event, will focus on a single page. Here are the bonuses players can expect:

  • Increased chances of encountering the three Trace Encounters on the Hagrid's Hut Registry Page: Hagrid, Buckbeak, and Baby Norwegian Ridgeback
  • Tonic for Trace Detection will also have a higher chance of spawning these three Foundables
  • Two Special Community Day Portkeys containing the other two Foundables on this page:
  • 1/2 distance on all Portkey Portmanteaus
  • Spell Energy will appear on the ground
  • 3x Wizarding XP when using a Baruffio's Brain Elixir
  • Special Assignments awarding Wizarding XP, Spell Books, and Gold

Players will also be able to claim a Free Gift from Diagon Alley during the Community Day hours, containing the following:

  • 2 Silver Keys
  • 1 Potent Exstimulo Potion

Completing the Hagrid's Hut Page

Calling all Registry completionists! This month's Community Day offers a fantastic chance to prestige one of the more challenging pages, with all five Foundables from Hagrid's Hut available during the event.

Collect Fortress Fragments

If your goal is to maximise your progress on your Registry during the event, the number one way to prepare is to focus on Abraxan Winged Horse and Hagrid's Hut Foundables before Community Day.

While these two Foundables will be available on Community Day, they'll require unlocking tons of Portkeys in a very short timeframe. Even with Silver Keys, it may be hard to unlock enough to collect all the Fragments you need to prestige the page.

However, if you prepare now, you can complete both of these Foundables before Community Day and start working on your next prestige level immediately by holding off opening until after you complete the other three Foundables on the Page (which, for many players, might be possible very shortly after the event starts).

To collect these two Foundables now, simply use Care of Magical Creatures Runestones to complete Fortress battles. In general, your chances of receiving a bonus Exploration Fragment (in this case, one of these two or Puffskein) increase with harder Fortress Chambers.

Clear Portkey Space

Of course, you'll also want to have space to pick up the special event Portkeys as soon as the event starts. That means it's time to get walking to unlock all the Portkeys you currently have!

The Community Day Portkeys will continue to award Abraxan Winged Horse or Hagrid's Hut Fragments even after the event, so if you want to save yourself some Runestone roulette, you'll want to fill up your Portkey inventory with them.

Between now and Saturday, key up all your Portkeys and unlock them all. However, to avoid any accidental Portkey pick-ups, do not open any Portkeys until just before the event. Or, you can even wait until the event starts, pop a Brain Elixir, and enjoy 3x XP on your old Portkeys to kick of the event.

Either way, the goal is to make sure you have an empty Portkey vault at the start of the event, so you can make the most of the special Portkeys!

Potions to Bring

Like any good witch or wizard or other magical sort, a key part of preparation means firing up the cauldron and brewing some essential potions. Here's what we recommend:

Exstimulo Potions

Estimulo Potions will far and away be the most useful potions for this Community Day, especially if you're racing to complete as many Traces as you can in a spawn-dense area, whether for the Wizarding XP or to complete the Registry.

The Traces for this event are High, Severe, and Emergency, which means they'll be difficult to return in one cast without the help of Exstimulo Potions, especially for lower level players. In this case, we recommend brewing Potent Exstimulos as your first priority. If you run out of Unicorn Hairs, move on to Strong Exstimulos, and then Basic Exstimulos.

If you find yourself limited on potions, save your best potions for Hagrid and Buckbeak.

Dawdle Draught

Should you brew up Dawdle Draught for this event? Our advice is well, it depends.

Players in spawn-dense areas should save the cauldron time for Exstimulos instead. That's because the biggest constraint for these players is time. If something departs, oh well. Grab the next Trace.

Players in less dense areas, however, may be more limited by the total number of Traces around them, more so than time, in which case Dawdle Draughts are crucial for ensuring they can return as many Foundables as possible.

In other words, if you're likely to spend much time waiting for another Trace, invest in Dawdles. Otherwise, skip the Dawdles and focus on Exstimulos.

Baruffio's Brain Elixir

If you have some Brain Elixirs already stocked up, this Community Day is one of the best times to use them. You'll want 6 total to take advantage of the 3x Wizarding XP all event long.

Should you brew Brain Elixirs if you're out of them though? With a steep cost of 12 hours base brew time, it depends on your playstyle and your goals.

For players under Wizarding Level 30, we recommend using 6 during the event, even if it requires brewing some. For everyone else, you probably already know if 3 hours of 3x WXP is worth 72 hours of cauldron time for you or not.

Tonic for Trace Detection

Bring six Tonic for Trace Detection for extra Traces all event long. For players in low-density areas, these will be especially important in helping make up for a lack of Traces. Even players in dense areas, however, can benefit from the extra spawns.

Tips for Community Day

Your potions are brewed, you've collected the Fortress Fragments, and you're ready to fill your vault with special event Portkeys. There's just one last bit of preparation left, and that's figuring out where and how to spend the day.

Where to Play

Where you play can make a big difference in how much you can get out of the event. Look for areas with high Inn and Trace density to make the most of the increased Traces without running out of energy. Parks, downtown areas, sponsored malls, museums, and more can all be good places to check out.

Since the event is three hours, make sure there’s somewhere in the area you can rest if you need to take a break. Ideally, that will be somewhere with Inns and Traces, but anywhere you can catch your breath and get some water and snacks (and re-apply sunscreen!) is good.

Be sure to check your local weather forecast as well. If the weather is unpleasant—too hot, too rainy, too humid, too cold—you might want to look for somewhere indoors to keep you and your phone safe from the elements.

Other things to bring

Depending on where you’re playing and what the weather is like, you might also want to bring water, snacks, sunscreen, touchscreen or fingerless gloves, and/or an umbrella. If you want to play the full three hours, a charged up battery pack (and charging cable for your phone) is also a must.

Finding a community

It’s not called Community Day for nothing! This is a great chance to try to find local players in your area or take a day trip somewhere else to meet new players and connect with the Wizards Unite community.

The easiest way to look for a community near you is to simply search “wizards unite [your location]” into Google, Facebook, or other social media sites. You can also try looking on the official Wizards Unite community map and forums for players in your area. Check out this article for more information on how to use that tool.
