Meta Shift: Goku's Family

Banner Overview

The new Legends Step-Up Vol.3 comes with some quite interesting mechanics. The first thing that catches the eye is the presence of only one Guaranteed Sparking Ticket available from clearing all the steps in the Banner. However, this is not a bad thing, as Banner’s steps reset daily, so it means that it’s possible to get two tickets roughly at the same cost as before by waiting an additional day.

To top it off, the steps on this Banner are overall more convenient than before, specifically because of the step with guaranteed EX Fighters at least, and the possibility to get two multis at the cost of one thanks to this Banner’s discounts and the daily reset. Also, there is no Fighter locked behind a ticket wall--However SP SSJ Kid Goten PUR only has a 0.25% pull rate before the last two steps.

Son Family

This Team is the one that improves the most after this update. SP SSJ Kid Goten PUR is the perfect partner in crime for SP SSJ2 Youth Gohan RED, as both of them are fantastic Ranged Fighters that become stronger after a Goku ally gets defeated. In this regard, it’s fitting that the newly released SP Otherworld SSJ Goku YEL also Buffs the whole Team after getting Defeated.

SP SSJ Teen Gohan BLU is a very good addition as well, as he’s a Tank with high Offensive potential and a Team Heal to top it off.

Overall, these four make Son Family one of the strongest Teams in the Meta.

Hybrid Saiyan

Hybrid Saiyan has always been sort of a weaker version of Son Family and this update doesn’t change that. SP SSJ Kid Goten PUR and SP SSJ Teen Gohan BLU both benefit greatly from a Goku variant being on the Team, so his absence here makes them a bit less reliable.

However, SP SSJ Kid Goten PUR is still a great partner for SP SSJ2 Youth Gohan RED because of how similar they are and while SP SSJ Teen Gohan BLU isn’t definitively better than SP SSJ3 Gotenks YEL in this Team, he brings diversity to the Team.

Sagas Warriors

The new Fighters Synergize incredibly well together. On this Team, they can be put at the core and be surrounded by great Sagas Warrior bench Supporters. This Build is exceptionally strong Offensively and Defensively thanks to this Fighter’s high Defensive stats and SP SSJ Teen Gohan BLU’s Cover and Team-Healing effects.

While it’s still unclear if this Build will be the best one for the Tag, it’s definitely a very good option regardless.

Super Saiyan

Despite all of them being Super Saiyan Tag, they don’t fit very well in this Team because they have to be paired up with Son Family Fighters to perform at their best. However, SP Otherworld SSJ Goku YEL is still a good option since his Supportive toolkit stays the same regardless.

Should You Pull?

While Dragon Ball Legend’s Anniversary is less than a month away, Step-Up Banners are always valuable and this is the best one yet thanks to its new mechanics, so it’s worth spending some Chrono Crystals on if your main Team is Son Family--or more specifically, if you have SP SSJ2 Youth Gohan RED.

However, if you’re not interested in building an optimal Son Family Team, your best choice might be to pass on this one.
