  • The father of Dragon Ball’s most iconic character is an all-around beast once he Transforms, boasting absurd Offensive Power and also utility tools that make him extremely self-sufficient in late Game.

  • It should be noted he’s not that good in early game. While he can still be Effective, it’s good to not forget his poor Durability, so he doesn’t get defeated before he has a chance to Transform. 

  • The Defensive utility he gives to his Team at all times is excellent though, and gives the Saiyan Tag a fantastic match-up against Blast-oriented parties.

  • This Fighter's Ki restore on switch and excellent personal Damage Buffs make him one of the strongest Offensive pivots in the game. With SP Saiyan Saga Goku BLU's Supportive Card Draw mechanic behind him, his Combo Damage skyrockets. 

  • He essentially has no flaws, since he’s consistently going to hit the opponent hard and Tank well, while also offering some deceptive Support thanks to his Strike Cards’ Debuffs. Goku can even function as the Team's assassin, picking off limping foes with his Special Arts Card on switch.

  • SP Saiyan Saga Goku BLU is one of the best Support Fighters in the game thanks to the permanent Offensive Buffs he can stack up for the whole Team and his Healing Ultimate Move. 

  • His Offensive potential shouldn’t be underestimated, he can even be a decent Last Man Standing thanks to his cumulative Buffs. 

  • His Defensive inadequacy can be an issue, but with SP Super Saiyan 4 Goku PUR backing him up, his bulk woes are definitely addressed.

  • HE Shallot LIG truly becomes an unbelievable force once he Transforms. His Damage Output in his SSJ3 Form is arguably the best in the Game and he’s can tank as well. He lacks consistent Ki Recovery and Arts Draw Speed tools, but SP Saiyan Saga Goku BLU ameliorates some of those issues for him and brings his Damage to the next level.

  • In some cases the fact his Base Form is so terrible that it can be annoying, but generally he’ll be able to perform very well despite that.

  • SP SSJ3 Goku GRN is usually relegated to the bench, but in games where Purple enemies aren't set to pose a problem, he's free to run wild. He deals absurd amounts of Damage with his long, discounted Combos late into matches, and his Ultimate Arts seriously has one-shot potential if he's rocking Support Buffs. 

  • Cover: Rescue makes up for his lack of Defensive presence and can potentially prevent a game-winning momentum swing, be it an Ultimate Arts or a Rising Rush.

Discussion

The Saiyan Team has gone through a renaissance. The most stark change is undoubtedly SP Angry Goku BLU getting replaced by his canonically weaker self, SP Saiyan Saga Goku BLU, who compliments his allies much better than his Super Saiyan counterpart does, since his stacking Buffs give every Fighter on the Core significantly greater late-game utility. This is just one of the aspects of his Supportive Toolkit, which was much needed in a Team previously saturated by self-centered Offensive Fighters. 

SP Bardock RED is the new star of this Team; his level of dominance in the late game is unparalleled, in the sense that Bardock arguably becomes the best Fighter in the Meta after his mid-game Transformation and he can’t even be stopped by Color Disadvantage. 

SP SSJ4 Goku PUR and HE Shallot LGT have become much stronger. They were already powerhouses, but the additional Support provided by Saiyan Saga Goku pushes them to new heights. It’s not rare to see those Fighters one-combo opponents. Generally, only one of them should be picked to join SP Bardock RED and SP Saiyan Saga Goku BLU in a Fight, and that choice is contingent on the match-up. 

SP SSJ3 Goku GRN can even join in on the action, as with his Saiyan Saga Counterpart's Support backing him up, his extraordinarily long Combos can even put enemy Purple Fighters in the hot seat. 

Overall, while this Team fundamentally lacks the Durability of other great Meta Teams, its Offensive power is leagues above its contemporaries. Its versatility and consistent power in matches is what carries it to victory.

  • It’s surreal to put this Fighter in the Alternative Fighter list, as he once was the king of this Team. Overall, his Offensive potential is still one of the highest in the game, but he starts off really badly nowadays. Generally, SP Saiyan Saga Goku BLU being on the Team leads to a much faster paced Offense, which is greater than the utility SP Angry Goku BLU offers.
     
  • Having said that, he’s still a top 10 Fighter in the Game thanks to how well he can perform when used properly.

  • He's still a great Fighter for this Team, especially when paired with SP Vegito RED, however that combo really declined throughout the past few months. The lack of synergy Vegito has with the rest of this Team is what detracts from his viability on it.

  • SP Baby Vegeta GRN might not be especially beneficial to this Team's synergy when off the core, but when he's on it, his incredible Ki and Damage Support Buffs can turn this Tag's strongest Offensive Fighters into beasts capable of one-Combo-ing any foe.
     
  • He is held back by his lackluster Z-Ability and his lack of self-sufficiency, but he's still a superb Fighter on this Tag.

  • SP Bardock YEL provides some decent Defensive Utility that this Team is sorely lacking. Plus, his power as a Yellow Fighter in a meta rife with Purple killers cannot be understated.
     
  • His Main Ability and Death Effect let him Support the Team with Special Move Arts Draws and Healing/Damage Buffs respectively, making him an excellent Substitute for a Fighter with Crisis Utility; the permanent Damage Buff he gives on Death can turn most Fighters into Crisis Fighter facsimiles.
