Overview

  • Achilles is hungry for a duel in the sixth Exhibition Quest! This quest features a special "Duel" mechanic.
  • Upon Break, Achilles will begin seeking a Duel opponent. In addition, he gains several buffs upon break, including Crit damage and rate buffs, charm resist, and greater ATK the lower his HP is. He will attempt to extend a duel invitation every turn after break.
  • Achilles will only duel non-Female, non-Caster, and non-Assassin Servants. If at least one Servant on the field satisfies these conditions, he will preferentially extend the duel invitation to that Servant (although this can be affected by target focus). He will withdraw his duel invitation if it happens to target a non-valid Servant.
  • Achilles will have extremely high Damage Resist if no duel is active. This includes during the first break bar, although his HP total is smaller so it is manageable. The second HP Bar is much higher, and for this reason, it is very difficult to defeat Achilles without having a valid duel target (although it is possible, albeit probably very difficult for most players, as shown in a whale setup in the Kama video below). The damage resist buffs will disappear if a duel begins.
  • Divine Servants have a small damage bonus against Achilles via a small 20% damage resist decrease when his Damage Resist buffs are active.
  • After break, at the start of the turn, Achilles will fill his NP Gauge to MAX every turn no Duel candidate is available. He also additionally buffs his Crit damage. So long as he is able to act, expect to see him use his NP every turn if he isn't provided with a duel target. Note that stunning him or otherwise making him unable to act will delay this, although keep in mind he does gain an additional ~40% charm resist during his 2nd HP bar.
  • Duels start the turn after a duel invitation is sent. At the end of the turn, the following unremovable effects will be applied (2 turns for all effects):
    • Target Focus on Achilles and on the singled out duel invitation Servant.
    • Order Change Seal, Skill Seal, and NP Seal on all Servants (no Order change skills such as the Chaldea Combat Uniform 3rd skill are allowed). For this reason, NPs are locked out during a duel, and normal cards must be used.
    • Stun and Command Card Seal on all non-duel Servants. Their Command Cards will not appear at all during the active duel, and they will be unable to assist the dueling Servant at this time, so set up any skills / buffs before the duel begins!
    • Master Skill Cooldown recovery doubled: If Master Skills are used, instead of the cooldown ticking by 1 per turn, it will tick by 2 per turn, effectively recovering Master Skills twice as quickly during a duel.
  • If the Singled Out Servant falls, or once the 2-turn duel finishes, Achilles will go back to searching for a Duel Opponent. He will regain his Damage Resist passives, and will return to applying a Duel Invitation on a valid target if he is able to find one every turn.

Team Recommendations

  • Male Berserker DPS would be the most obvious option that satisfies his Duel requirements (non-Female, non-Caster, non-Assassin), while still having offensive class advantage. Alter Egos would theoretically work as well, although unfortunately all Alter Egos in the NA roster are female. A Servant that has strong Critical performance would be a good choice, due to the fact that NPs are locked during the duel period.
  • Divine Trait on DPS is desirable, particularly for DPS during the non-duel sections of the encounter, since Achilles has a slightly lower damage resist against Divine trait enemies.
  • Trait Bonus Damage can be enough to overcome his damage resist buffs if electing to ignore the duel mechanic and brute force the encounter. In this case NPs, which are otherwise sealed during active duels, become available. The Berserker of El Dorado is a particularly stand out option, being Divine, having bonus damage against Greek Mythology males, Berserker offensive class advantage, and a lore-wise grudge against Achilles. Oda Nobunaga (Berserker) also has bonus damage against Divine enemies, which fits the bill for Achilles as well, although this only applies to her NP damage.
  • Damage Support is still useful to help boost the primary DPS's damage. Although they are unable to act during the duel, they can still set up their buffs before the duel becomes active to maximize damage during the duel. Supports that are female, Caster, or Assassin class are particularly helpful since they will not accidentally become Achilles's duel target instead of the selected DPS.
  • Buff Stacking on the DPS and swapping them out to the backline, followed by stalling the encounter until skill cooldowns have recovered and bringing the DPS back to further stack more buffs is a rather stable and effective strategy (shown in the Heracles video). For this setup, the Chaldea Combat Uniform's Order Change skill will be required.
