Overview

A new variant of one of the most beloved villains in the Dragon Ball series, the fan-favorite - Goku Black, is back. This time shares some similarities with his best buddy SP Zamasu RED in the Defense department, while also growing more familiar with possessed Goku’s body, picking up the near-death powering up technique that Saiyans are well known for.

While his toolkit is easily understood, Goku Black sets himself apart with his unique blend of Permanent Buff Stacking, Defensive Utility, Tag Hate-Buffs, and excellent longevity via Health Recovery. He is the Future Tag's best Defensive Fighter by far, and though the Tag isn't as prominent as it used to be, Goku Black remains a major part of it's strength in certain match-ups. 

Strengths

The Best Defense

Not only does SP Goku Black PUR possess very high base Strike and Blast Defense stats he also cuts his Sustained Damage in half with his Cover-change Ability. His 10% Damage to Health restoration after and Enemy Combo, his +10% self-Healing Extra Move, and his +20% Heal from his Main Ability make him a very bulky Fighter that won’t go down easily. 

Is a Good Offense

His Unique Ability ‘This pain will make me stronger!’ certainly lives up to its name. After each Enemy Combo SP Goku Black PUR sustains, he receives a whooping 50% Damage Inflicted Buff for 15 Timer Counts - which can be stacked multiple times. 

This ability is fantastic on its own, but it truly becomes absurd when active in tandem with the permanent +15% Strike Attack and +15% Blast Attack provided by his Extra Arts Card. His capacity to switch from Defensive to Offensive thanks to these Damage Buffs is what makes him such an excellent mid and late-game Fighter.

All this is further amplified by his second Unique Ability, which makes him inflict +35% Damage to Saiyans.

A Parting Gift!

If a foe Goku Black switches into the combo of tries to flee from his devlish onslaught, they are saddled with a +30% Damage Received Debuff for a whopping 30 Timer Counts, as well as a flat 20 Ki Reduction. The duration of this Debuff gives it a high likelihood of impacting the game later on. 

Weaknesses

High Risk, High Reward

While his Damage Buffs can potentially stack up quickly, he needs to get hit first in order to receive his primary Damage Inflicted Buff. This can be played around by skilled players, and also expose him to high Health loss combos or Rising Rush by Enemy Fighter.

Stats Distribution

SP Goku Black PUR has one of the best Defenses in the game, but his base Strike and Blast Attack stats are rather subpar, making him rely very heavily on amassing Damage Buffs from either his own or his Teammate's Support Abilities. If Black doesn't get the chance to stack his permanent Buffs, his Damage output as an Offensive Pivot is laughable, especially against non-Saiyans. 

Vulnerable to Buff Removal

Like all Fighters that rely on permanent Buffs, SP Goku Black PUR is vulnerable to Fighters with the power to remove Buffs. If Goku Black is ready and willing to crush any of those Fighters after their combo ends, they need only to purge his Buffs to completely blunt Black's blade. Goku Black's Extra Arts Card only offers permanent Damage Buffs the first two times it's used, so if those Buffs somehow dissipate, there's no way to get them back. 

Team Synergy

Future

Seeing as this is the only Tag he Buffs with his Z Ability, the Future Tag is the best place for SP Goku Black PUR. His Yellow counterpart, Zenkai 1 SP Goku Black YEL, is an excellent partner for the scourge of the future. The two of them can each act as Crisis Fighters, giving their Team multiple late-game win conditions. 

SP Super Saiyan Rose Goku Black RED is a natural partner for his un-awakened doppelganger, offering Offensive Support via Debuffs and Color Coverage for SP Goku Black PUR. SP Gohan GRN and SP Super Saiyan Gohan YEL each offer Crisis Utility in their own way, the former gaining Damage Buffs as his Teammates fall, and the latter giving permanent Debuffs to his remaining Allies when he dies. Each cement Future as a Tag with staggeringly threatening late-game potential, and each work very well with Goku Black.
